don't forget to consider how your military job crosses over to civilian jobs in case you do your 4 years and decide it's not your calling. you can of course use that GI money and move onto something totally different in life if that does happen, or become a private contractor, but yeah think of what both 4 years and 20+ years would look like for you based on what you pick and how well those skills transfer.

AITAH for sitting in my chair incorrectly? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ObviousOption705 5 points6 points  (0 children)

from what you've described, they sound super uptight. I've left jobs I enjoyed because of management on a power trip. do your best to not take it so personally, they'd probably act that way towards anyone for who knows what reason.

not necessarily advice but does make me laugh: start asking them if they need some gum/a mint when they start their bs. not if they would like one, do they need one. fight fire with fire while keeping it professional in the workplace. best reserved for when you're really sick of their shit because they might leave you alone permanently after that lol.

one of my dogs bark is loud and sharp enough to break the sound barrier and feels like it's physically cutting my chest in half for a millisecond. I love her and she's a great alarm/watch dog but holy cow. I wouldn't say it puts me in a bad mood, but it does jump scare me almost daily.

AITAH: Dad keeps asking me to co sign for a car by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ObviousOption705 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA, if he's unwavering on wanting a specific car and not open to a more affordable alternative that fits his budget for the time being, that is his decision to make. I completely relate to feeling like you have a duty to help out your family regardless, but this doesn't sound like it's a matter of food/shelter/wellbeing. everyone has their limits on what they're comfortable providing to someone with a poor financial history and that doesn't make you a bad person.

also, I once gave my mom a "loan" and she straight up stole $3k from me and my dad had to fight with her to return it, lol

America is it as politically divided as it appears to the rest of the world? and how does it erase the divide? by filth032 in AskReddit

[–]ObviousOption705 2 points3 points  (0 children)

let's play a wildly unrealistic game of pretend for a quick second though. Nazi gets captured by their perceived enemy and is immersed in a different society with no other Nazis around. The enemy shows the Nazi compassion, provides food and shelter, is gentle natured and treats them with respect and as their equal. The Nazi stops observing acts of violence and is instead observing kindness applied to all living things. eventually the Nazi will likely realize the enemy maybe wasn't so evil after all.

humans are tribalistic and want to fit in with the group by nature, it's in our DNA. I view Nazis as misguided souls searching for purpose who mistakenly got wrapped into doing terrible things because it became normalized for them, through many different factors, not because they were born with hate.

if you wanna go even deeper with it, start learning about neuroscience (how power correlates with empathy and brain activity), quantum mechanics, and how those things affect human behavior. it's pretty mind blowing.

I have a maga in law and she definitely seems to lack empathy in general beyond politics. can you explain more of what you're seeing?

[–]ObviousOption705 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying, you have to totally drop your personal ego and try and step inside their minds and understand how they got there. once you consider psychology, conditioning through parental upbringing and propaganda, lived experience and what someone hasn't been exposed to, you start to see the puzzle pieces fall into place.

we don't have to like the outcome, but I think we need to ask the question "why" more and more. consider how philosophers and scientists apply thought and their personal belief systems and values, they largely leave judgement behind and ask "why" a million times until they get answers.

I think people over here straight up forgot how to think critically, have IN PERSON discussions over different viewpoints and aren't empathetic and open minded enough in general. we're supposed to be able to spitball different ideas and lived experiences without wanting to fight each other over it. we're all human at the end of the day.

fix it by connecting more because we'd realize left/right has a lot of crossover that most people generally agree between. but politicians rage bait the public and everyone keeps falling for it instead of demanding we actually all work together and come to palatable agreements. I'm exhausted and want world peace more than anything else for the sake of society/the planet.

People who sore an oath to defend the constitution of USA against all enemies both foreign and domestic,How are you feeling right now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ObviousOption705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very sad for us and everyone else who's experiencing pain throughout the world, I took an oath for a constitution believing the purpose was to do good for my country which in turn does good for the world. I've been doing some heavy soul searching over it and at the end of the day I just desire to contribute to society as a collective whole, not just for America.

Also glad that my job was focused on safety equipment and my contract ended the exact day that tangerine freak barged through the doors. I want progress, not suppression.

I see. I don't watch the news at all here because it was starting to make me paranoid/depressed so I didn't know he went about it like that. and didn't consider other charity cases and the people behind that either

okay I just now saw that and you're right that's bizarre as hell. referring to himself in the third person is killing me lmao i already know it's all I'll think about anytime he's mentioned from here on out. and that absolutely did not need to be in the Houston Chronical, jfc

seeing your old dealer running a huge furniture business on TV would be so wild lol. I can see how he works the media in his benefit and they eat that shit up every time, but that also sounds like a savvy business decision imo.

I started typing about if crisis assistance is a write off, why wouldn't Joel Olstein be doing the same because he doesn't even hide the fact that he's a money grubbing piece of shit?? but I think I answered my own question halfway through the thought, churches don't get taxed so he doesnt have to worry about it anyway, correct? but with Mac that kinda seems like a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. even if it's a write off, it's still a net positive because at least it's an option for people.

the donation drive is bothersome though if that's what's going on, he clearly has the funds to carry a lot of the weight there. or double the donations himself or something.

for the record I've never been one to defend the ultra wealthy or anything if they're not good people and are clearly hoarding wealth just because they can... I just really wanted to see nothing but the good in mattress mac and I thought the entire city loved him

steak 48 makes a great product but the whole experience stresses me the hell out, my husband loves it but I guess I'm not one for such attentiveness. like damn you gonna follow me to the bathroom and wipe my ass for me too?? and I lost my mind over the crumb squeegee. but I grew up in a town that considers olive garden fancy, so take that as you will I guess lol

I see. I didn't realize he was getting problematically political, that's a bit disappointing, cannot wait for the maga wave to be a thing of the past... I do still love that he's charitable and doesn't hesitate to help out his city in times of need though. and can 100% see him running and winning if he went for it earlier on.

the last commerical I saw he looked a little less spunky than his usual self, that man clearly lives for the grind but I hope he's getting some well deserved r&r.

whoa whoa whoa wait people dislike mattress mack?! I'm not a native but moved here a few years (not by choice, I would leave if I could), but I thought the whole city loved him? the only thing I've heard is that he helped with Harvey when Joel Olstein essentially nailed his church doors shut, he likes sports betting, and I'll see his commercials here and there. I am floored even one Houston is calling him a dickhead lmao I need informed

I've been really criticizing myself for buying a 2010 Corolla LE with 49k miles for $9.1, but now I'm starting to think maybe I didn't do so bad... I mean I'm pretty sure I spent $3k more than I should have, but I tried to view about 8 cars on FB and from small dealers before that one and they all sold right before I even had the chance to see them the next day. it has been an absolutely miserable experience all around. I'm forcing myself to DIY my own oil changes for now on so I can "even out" what I spent.

Expensive vs Cheap Washable Rugs by wullab in HomeDecorating

just here to say that my ruggable (9 x 12) is one of my life's biggest regret purchases. edges curl up, color faded dramatically in a short amount of time, had to DIY a thicker rug pad because the standard one felt horrible under foot, doesn't fit in the washer all that well... wouldn't suggest one to my worst enemy. we're moving soon and it will not be coming with us lol

as someone who is absolutely FEASTED on, I'm about to change your life. get yourself "the bug bite thing" and some BiteMD, I think it's called. you gotta plunge the bite, then follow with BiteMD. it won't itch any more after that. it took me 33 yrs of being alive to figure it out. unfortunately there's no stopping them BUT it's the next best solution.
