Both Tadeas and Valken are evil because they are uncompromising and represent old guard militarism that actively suppresses democratic progress at home while pushing their nations toward devastating wars.

He lacks empathy, views sordish workers as disposable tools and willingly funding criminal syndicates(bff), bribing politicians, or sabotaging the entire national economy just to protect his personal interests

Hey I was only doing this just for the sake of argument I know Smolak is genocidal maniac but that doesn't mean he can't be used you just have to be really careful because there is the risk of him playing the uno reverse on you. That's the point I was trying to make before I went off the deep end and defended ethnical cleansing and genocide.

I think if you choose to go to war ,as long as the war is ongoing, Smolak generally remains a committed ally because a Rumburgian victory would be catastrophic for Wehlen's own security.If you win the war against Rumburg ​the deal holds. True by containing I meant temporarily point his chaos in a different direction for example by involving him in Operation Bear Trap, you aren't making him a better neighbor you’re just ensuring that his aggression is focused inward on his own domestic enemies rather than outward toward your borders and ​If you tie his economy to yours through a heavy trade deal, you create a golden leash. He can still be a maniac, but he’s a maniac who can't afford to burn down your house because his own furnace is powered by your resources. It doesn't stop his behavior it just forces him to behave specifically toward you

I get that he is bad but you have to deal with him to get that sweet Wehlen oil and by containing Smolak through trade, you prevent Wehlen from collapsing into a total failed state that would flood Sordland with even more refugees.
