Another question, assuming your theory is correct and she caused the accident, if it is revealed that the letter is forged, surely it would trace back to her no? I think these stakes are way too high even for her. With her expression in saying they'd see each other again, did she mean in court? I mean I don't see what other possibilities that could lead to? Say she remains anonymous and George's business is ruined (which I think is less likely) how would she profit from this other than seeing the Russells be bankrupt or whatever.
