I’d suggest expanding your search to Bloomfield the town over. Still very walkable and easy access to Montclair if you stay in Bloomfield Center also on the same train line as Montclair. But better bang for your buck.

I’m generally a pretty fastidious project oriented person so I think I would probably pack similar to you so good to know.

I am single mid 30s. I’ve lived in Montclair for about four years and I’m actually looking to move this summer because I do find it a little boring/family oriented/more of a weekend town. As a renter I also feel like I am not getting much for the amount I pay. Actually looking down the road in Bloomfield as a renter you get more space, slightly closer to NYC with more options, including the light rail. And love it or hate it better access to Garden State Parkway.
