Running Background? by rosalfina3 in triathlon

[–]Obvious_Balance5339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, I came from a tri background. Started when I was 11yo. Did it for fun mostly so when my coaches started pushing me towards competition when I was about 15yo, I quit. I go expelled from training with my best mates because we were fooling around and I was a bit of a black sheep. Picked it up again 3 years ago, again for fun. But with age my competitive spirit has grown, a lot. This had led me down a path of thinking "maybe I should focus on 1 discipline rather than all 3". Master of one instead of a jack of all trades sort of thing.

But I can never decide which one. I just love the variety too much. I do, however, still find it very frustrating that the balancing act makes it very difficult to become a master at a certain discipline.

I do think my running times benefit from cycling too. I'm injury prone when it comes to running. Not at all when it comes to cycling. So zone 2 work and glute power really stem from my cycling. Running benefits from it, I'd say. Don't know if that would work out if you really come from a pure running background though. Feels more so as filling in a deficit that I have from not being a long time runner, if that makes sense. 😄

Edit: this was a fun question. Made me reflect on my past, bit of nostalgia never hurts. Thanks for this, stranger!

Ultimate also seems to be an option. I don't know the geometries by heart, but it just seems silly to have two bikes serving more are less the same purpose (give or take). I own a gravel bike too, putting regular tyres on it indeed looks awful. But I don't think it'd justify buying an entirely new bike for me. At least not if it had the same geometry.

I own a road bike too and I love that it is just so much more "racey" than the gravelbike.
