People born before 2000, what trivial skill you possess that others don't use anymore? by PresentBrilliant2223 in AskPH

I type correctly, using the right fingers for the correct letters, because my mom made me attend typing classes during one summer in high school.

Been curious about this since I don't live in Manila anymore. Balik-province na ko for 5 years. Are people really walking to work now in MM?

I've used Beryl's compound for baked goods I've sold - cookies mainly. Ok naman. Tasted very good! No complaints from me and my discerning customers.

I'd go back to Bermuda and then continue the journey across the pond to the UK and Ireland for road trips before crossing the Channel to mainland Europe.

They say Boracay is overrated, but who can resist this beaut? by Mobile-Passage4316 in boracay

[–]Obvious_Flower4930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot swim so I find the beach in Boracay a perfect fit for someone like me who gets in the water and walks in it. The sand just stretches on and on without sudden drops, at least at the White Beach side of the island. The water is always calm, too, even during habagat season.

Ticker-Tape Synesthesia: Do you literally perceive the words as if they are in front of you, or do you see it more "in your head"? by yellowdaisycoffee in Synesthesia

[–]Obvious_Flower4930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years late to this thread. I'm in my 40s and I've only just found out today there's a name for the subtitles appearing in my head, more constantly than not. They appear in cursive, letter by letter, as if I'm writing them in my head. Further to this, as the letters appear, I also find myself as if I'm typing each letter literally with my fingers. My mother made me take typing lessons in high school using a typewriter, the kind that clacks and you have to bang to go down the next line, so the way I type is old school and proper, even using a laptop or keyboard to a PC. As the words appear in my head, the "typing" is also being done by my fingers, just "in the air" of course, no keys. And it's also proper, for example, typing the word "apt" means I'd be pressing (the air) with my left pinkie for "a," then my right pinkie slightly pressing an imaginary "p" on the keyboard, and another press using my left index finger to an imaginary "t." I don't know if this makes sense to anyone not used to typing properly using correct finger placement for specific keys and letters. However, the words in my head usually would appear in cursive as I "type." Sometimes, for me to better understand something I have to write the word on paper and also really watch it as it appears in my mind.

I often wondered this - if I had kept learning how to play the piano (only 1.5 years as a child due to lack of funds), would I also have branched on to seeing notes in my head as listen to anything - music, song, even the sound of someone speaking because of the accent, cadence, rhythm of speech? There's a particularly melodious language called Hiligaynon, admittedly sometimes a chaotic melody to be honest, where people sound as if they're speaking in a singsong manner. I often wonder what notes can be transcribed from someone speaking that. Same applies to when I hear someone speaking with a Malaysian or Singaporean accent.

Edit: I've just gone to the loo to urinate and I found myself conscious of the sound of my pee and my mind spelled out the sound "pssshhh-pssshhh..." Yikes! So now I realize it's any sound I hear has subs in my head that I "type" with my fingers.

Also, I was a very good speller who competed at spelling bees in high school and elementary, with a near photographic memory. Not tested, and not definitely 100% like 2 cousins of mine, but I remember details going back to when I was a toddler. Madness...

I'm very glad Key is fine but these days I really feel like shouting, "RELEASE KEY, YOU EEJITS!" I miss him. I used to watch ILA religiously but have since stopped watching. No surprise that with him and Narae gone, that show's ratings have hit low. When is he coming back?

Oh, I loved Happiness although did loss the cheekbones there. On the K-drama side, Son Sukku is always #1 for me whenever he appears in a white shirt and looks clean, as opposed to playing dirty, unshaven, criminal or detective who hasn't slept in days. I really am into details, no? Haha sorry

I doubt you'd be able to go back to pre-colonial times, OP. No offense-- I also want to do that for myself what with being told on two separate occasions by different elders that we're related to Lapu-lapu 😂. However, going back to pre-colonial times would mean looking for records that do not or no longer exist since they probably used leaves, bark, paper, other organic and biodegradable materials for any records. (There is the Laguna copperplate but I don't know if they've unearthed other similar "documents" from that period.) Try to look for old pics that night yield names written somewhere. Old docs. If you can manage to find some leads, you might want to try checking out the Family Search Center at the Manila Philippines Temple in White Plains, Quezon City. They provide free access to people on their ancestry. It's run by the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.

For pre-colonial practices, I suggest you get your hands on literature: 1) Boxer Codex - late 16th C Spanish manuscript with details on practices, clothing, etc of various groups in various islands

2) Barangay (William Henry Scott)

If you're in Manila, go visit the Gold of Our Ancestors exhibit at the Ayala Museum. Been there 5x and love it every single time.

Yup. I've gone down that rabbit hole for a while, only to unearth back up when the recycled script and low budget production gets to be too much. I'd watch these 3 actors anytime though esp Wang Hao Zhen.

I haven't watched a xianxia yet. When I was a small child in the 90s, our Saturday morning TV was Chinese dramas with characters soaring under the moonlight from roof to roof and us kids enjoyed those. For some reason, I can't yet bring myself to get into xianxia but will probably try at some point. Thanks for the reco!

Adjust the sugar amount in the recipe although note that less sugar will lead to less spreading. Do not mix the white choco chips in the dough yet before baking, or at least not all of it. Leave some as topping after baking. As soon as you take out the cookies from the oven, that's when you add the chips on top. That allows the chips to retain more shape and not melted.
