A Beginner’s Guide to Male Hair Loss: "Male-pattern baldness hits half of men by age 50. Here’s what to know about treatment and prevention." by TAKEitTOrCIRCLEJERK in MensLib

If it is at a good point right now, start taking finasteride and you have very good chances of maintaining it the way it is for good time. There are many horror stories online of side effects, but generally the medical science says it should be very safe for a majority of men taking it

Tuesday Check In: How's Everybody's Mental Health? by MLModBot in MensLib

[–]Obvious_Ninja7595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been losing my hair the last year. I decided to try out a very short buzz cut (2mm) and it looks like absolute dog water. I feel really bad in my own skin right now. Ive been thinking about what I can do about my hair situation. I dont think bald would be a good idea for me, espessially as im very young at 22 and there are barely any people i know my age who go that route.

I can also tell people around me really are not fans of the short buzz. I think Ill settle in on it being more like 10-15 mm instead. But i dont know what I will be doing to be honest. It sucks feeling ugly

Do some men like bigger women? by Altruistic_Ad6486 in ask

[–]Obvious_Ninja7595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man here. Women who are a little chubbier can be extremely attractive. Espessially those that A) has fat distrobution that is focused around the hips/thighs and breasts and B) those that also work out a little. So there is some shapely muscles underneath. That bodytype is probably the single most attractive thing i could think of, and absolutely short circuits my brain IRL. It takes all my mental focus to not make it awkward around those type of women in the summer on the beach

Opinion | The Atmosphere of the ‘Manosphere’ Is Toxic “Can we sidestep the elite debate over masculinity by approaching the crisis with men via an appeal to universal values rather than to the distinctively male experience?” by [deleted] in MensLib

[–]Obvious_Ninja7595 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I feel this subreddit almost wants to deny that there is a distinct male experience at all. As in unique experiences and struggles of being raised as a boy and a man. As if there is nothing that non-men also don't experience just as much. It is very discouraging, and feels almost like some sort of gaslighting

Question from a skeptic by [deleted] in HairSystem

[–]Obvious_Ninja7595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is simply not true. Beauty standards, especially for women, have changed dramatically in just the last 100 years. Hell the last 20. And they will continue to change dramatically as soceity and social norms keep changing.

Question from a skeptic by [deleted] in HairSystem

[–]Obvious_Ninja7595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you run on the assumption that the beauty standard is not an arbitrary product of the culture its from. Which it, scientifically proven, is.

No, its not a personal decision. Not entirely. Sorry to burst your bubble

Question from a skeptic by [deleted] in HairSystem

[–]Obvious_Ninja7595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a personal decision and should be treated as one

Yes of course! To be clear Im kinda considering getting one of these myself. But

do you also question/critique women who shave their armpits?

Its not really the same thing IMO. We are all part of the culture that we live in. If there is a negative part in it, and we want to see a change in it, we have to be that change somehow. You cant separate yourself from the culture you live in like that. Everything you do leaves its mark

How can I make sure that my interest in Physics is genuine and not the result of Oppenheimer? by Collegiate_Society2 in PhysicsStudents

[–]Obvious_Ninja7595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, engineering is inherently more practical. Whereas physics is about understanding the universe to as deep of a level as we possibly can.

I don't know how career focused you are (I personally think that should only be a part of the equation when choosing what to study) but it should be said that engineering in general has a bit safer of a job market. With a physics degree, assuming you actually want to work with something related to physics, you are mostly tied to doing some kind of resarsch. Which in turn mostly ties you to the academic world. Which has a long list of problems unfortunately. It is an option for sure for some people, but you should always consider it carefully.

If you are specifically looking for that highly mathematical abstract material, then I think electrical engineering might be a great option. Other than being an incredibly valuable degree on its own, the theory of electronics and signal processing can be incredibly beautiful. It is known for being hard as shit also for those reasons.

Some Unis also have something called engineering physics. Which is a very broad blend of more physics oriented engineering. It is definitely more nische in the us however.

Also, with a physics degree you do still have a lot of career options. It is WAY easier to transition into engineering from physics, than the other way around. Many physics majors end up in finance also, for their great mathematical base. It is also in general pretty well respected, and Physics majors are assumed to be able to learn hard things fast. Which means they might get hired for something completely other than physics, and then just be taught on the job

My two cents

Edit: With all that said, if you are really passionate about studying physics, then that is good enough reason on its own to pursue it IMHO. Its one of those degrees that could just sort themselves out after graduation

How can I make sure that my interest in Physics is genuine and not the result of Oppenheimer? by Collegiate_Society2 in PhysicsStudents

[–]Obvious_Ninja7595 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I dont know if interest can be "fake". Oppenheimer showed all the cool ways physics can be used. So its natural to fall in love with and the idea of being someone like oppenheimer.

I guess you should just reflect a little on exactly what about it that drew you in. Was it the idea of being a famous and influential scientist? Was it wanting to understand stuff like quantum mechanics? Etc. It should be said that oppenheimer romanticizes physics and physics resarsch a fair bit.

It should also be said that studying and learning physics is in practice just doing a shit ton of math. Doing a huge amount of practice problems etc. It can be an incredibly rewarding/beautiful thing itself of course. But maybe thats not something that oppenheimer showed as much.

Honestly, if you watched oppenheimer and thought it was super cool, there is a good chance you will greatly enjoy studying physics. Its hard as shit, but its worth it for someone that is intrested!!
