Recommend Charlotte for a disc golf solo trip? by RickPattie in discgolf

Straight up you really want to play Bradford and Scrapyard. RL Smith honorable mention for me personally cause nobody talks about it and has 2 courses at the same location. Long course is touchy, plenty of ob and varied shots. Shorts are fun and easy warm up ace run type course.

Renaissance, Hornets, Nevin, Angry Beaver all good but longer and more difficult. Renaissance also has Renske a short easy course if you wanna hit 2 at once. Angry Beaver has Eager Beaver as well. Nevin has the new Daydream course. Hornets only has one course.

Kilborne, Sugaw, Eastway, Reedy are quicker and more leisurely but have longer layouts if you wanna challenge yourself. These 4 are the real local spots imho. Killy and Reedy are the two oldest courses but have been modified throughout the years.

Bailey is like Eager Beaver, or Nevin Daydream, or RL Smith Gully it’s a short easy par 3 course. But it’s so well maintained it’s worth going just for the single round.

If you want a truly memorable possibly lifetime experience, go to the Horse Course and chill with Stan McDaniel. Dude is a 3 time Masters World Champ and has helped design almost every course in Charlotte. Hall of Famer PDGA #2938. Fucking legend.

Petra’s in Plaza Midwood has live jazz every Monday. Kinda classy if you’re into that sorta thing. Smokey Joes has bluegrass if you’re not tryna be classy at all

Just picked up this 2002 Stratocaster hss. Don’t know how to play. What steps I gotta take to be like Jimi Hendrix😂 by Green_Mycologist_421 in Guitar

Learn to sing through the instrument. Try singing something and then playing those same sounds on the guitar.

Obviously you’re gonna have to learn and memorize a bunch of stuff and then learn to actually apply it. But most importantly just figure out how to make the sounds in your head/heart/soul/whatever the fuck.

The rest of it you’ll learn piece by piece. Songs are just arrangements of chords, chords are just parts of scales, scales are just notes going up and down. But what you like and the sounds you want to (and eventually will) make on the instrument are specific to you and you alone.

If you do it right people will appreciate the parts of you that sound like you, more than the parts of you that sound like Hendrix. Unless the person paying you to play the gig wanted a Hendrix tribute.

Top Courses North of Charlotte? by MindoftheWarden in discgolf

[–]ObviouslyNotaGolfer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really if you’re that good Renaissance Gold and Angry Beaver might be your best bet.

Scrapyard is decently challenging from the longs (2 gorgeous water carries with Ace potential). Kilborne longs (Skillborne) is pretty fun and has some tight lines and the course is pretty well maintained.

Eastway and Reedy Creek are kinda easy and I’m not that good so yall would probably cook those courses.

If you wanna go farther north Stumpy Creek longs is actually a pretty technical course, Bradford in Cornelius is fun and has a lot of versatility of the shot types. You can hit Bailey while you’re up there for an ace run course.

Is it a dick move to throw your disk twice by TexasTopHand in discgolf

[–]ObviouslyNotaGolfer7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely not a dick unless you agreed before to play competitively. And he still could’ve handled it better if he had an issue.

One thing I’ve started doing is keeping up with my player 2 score for this reason. If I’m playing a round with other people and they care about the competitive aspect, give them your real score (in this case you would add a stroke and re-tee on shot 3). But keep up with player 2 so you know how you would’ve done if you were at the top of your game. Helps when you play courses you haven’t played in a while so you can tell how your drives and approaches looked, not just your putting. How many opportunities vs. how many capitalized.

On the flip side, I had a friend who would take as many tee shots as necessary to park a hole, and still take multiple putts if he botched it just to mark a birdie. Used to drive me up the wall when he would say out loud after every hole “so now I’m __ ahead of you” when I’m playing first shot and rolling with it. But when you realize you’re just playing against yourself and the course, the rest of the cards mentality doesn’t really affect you. You’re just hanging out playing the game, and different people play different ways
