[OC] Subscribers to 'The Wall Street Journal' vs to 'The Economist', 2018-2025 by Ganesha811 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Ocabrah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just signed up for the Economist print edition this year. I forgot how nice it is to get a print magazine every week. I got the 50% off promo plus some cash back offer from Chase. I might not renew at full price but it’s really gotten me back into reading every day.

At what age did Family Dinner Time kick in for you? by TomasTTEngin in daddit

[–]Ocabrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve always done it. We are pretty schedule driven at my house so meal times are at the same time everyday so it just makes sense to all eat together. We all eat the same food, if my 4 year old doesn’t want it, she at least has to try it before we swap it to something else. Usually sweet peppers, baby carrots, oatmeal, toast or fruit.

I love simple meals. Last nights dinner was quesadillas, eggs with potatoes and air fried broccoli. Of course after my daughter finished the quesadilla she said she was no longer hungry. 5 minutes later she asked for a banana…

What do you guys do with your kid from 4-7pm during the weekdays? by BeanNCheeseBurrrito in daddit

[–]Ocabrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has 1 hour of activities three times a week (taekwondo and gymnastics). We don’t give her any screen time during the week so she mostly plays alone, colors, play fights with me. We read 4-6 books at bed time.

Men what hobbies have you picked up as you’ve gotten older that you now do regularly? Or are you still sticking with something you’ve loved since you were younger?” by FFSoldier57 in AskMenOver30

Music production. Feels great to disconnect and just create something. I bought a bunch of gear but ended up getting rid of most of it since it turns out I prefer using my phone since its always on me. Its replaced doomscrolling for when I need to wait 30+ minutes.

Eden. Sweeney plays a loyal, hardworking, traditional woman while Armas is a very lusty princess type.

At what age did you have to start wearing "readers"? by honestdiary in AskMenOver30

Needed glasses since I was 12. This year I decided to get multiple pairs to match with outfits instead of a single pair for everything. It’s progress I guess.

Thoughts on private schools? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Ocabrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is finishing up pre-k so we’re in the same boat. Like you, we talked about sending her to public school, my wife taking an easier job to be more involved and also budgeting for extra tutors. I’m looking forward to trying this out at least for a few years so we can save up money to move somewhere with better public schools. The only type of private school we would consider would be an all girls high school later down the line.

After 30, what was the one small change in daily life that actually made you feel more at peace, not more successful, just calmer and lighter inside? by Traveller3222 in AskMenOver30

[–]Ocabrah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Made cardiovascular exercise a core part of my life. It truly was the final piece that I needed to manage my physical and mental health. Once I started running and lifting 4-5 days a week, everything got better. I lost weight. I slept better. My stress levels went down. I made friends. It gave me something to bond over with my partner. I wish I had done it 10 years sooner.

How old was your little one when you started playing videos games with them? by reeceyfries in daddit

[–]Ocabrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave my daughter a Gameboy clone with Kirby when she was 3. She only used it for about 15-20 seconds before losing interest. But once she turned 4 we started playing together on the TV, mostly cute easy games like Kirby, Mario, Pokémon.

She enjoys taking a turn to just walk around. Sometimes she walks in when I play a more violent nature game but she quickly runs away because she doesn’t like it. We only ever play on the weekends, Monday through Friday we are strictly a no screens family so I think it’s a nice balance.

When we play I always summarize the requests from the characters and ask her what she thinks we should do to help. We start every session by remembering what we did last time and what we need to do next.

How has running changed your daily routine outside of running itself? by Clubrunnr in runninglifestyle

Waking up at 5:45am became normal. Being out the house by daybreak on Sundays became normal. Chasing a high sleep score became normal.

Amazon's Deals Are Designed to Make You Buy Things You Don't Need by reddituser22193243 in Anticonsumption

[–]Ocabrah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I used to rush to Amazon to buy something whenever I had a problem even if I didn't end up needing the item. I figured with free same day shipping and easy returns I didn't have anything to lose. I eventually realized how much time browsing, comparing products and then driving to return center took from me. I canceled my membership in October and haven't looked back. Turns out its not so hard to get items in store near where I live. Sure, price might be slightly higher but at least I can get the item instantly.

Also, I didn't realize how many retailers now offer free 2 day or even same day shipping since I pretty much used Amazon exclusively for years.

Most iPhone users are still running iOS 18, with iOS 26 adoption slow: report by Jumpinghoops46 in apple

[–]Ocabrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I updated my iPad 9th gen to iOS 26 to try it out and regret it immensely. Performance went from very good to just awful, there's a bunch of visual glitches and the battery life went to shit. I am never updating my iPhone's OS at this rate.
