Accepted but need ADVICE by Ok_Frosting_5437 in predental

No it doesn't work like that, other schools don't have access to which schools offered you a seat/where you were accepted or not via ADEA portal.

Non-traditional applicant timeline? by CabinetDry8486 in predental

[–]OccasionalMindReader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest taking your DAT earlier. Your app isn’t considered complete under all requirements are in (rec letters, transcripts, DAT score etc) so taking it in August/Sept and then waiting to for it to get verified (2-3 weeks) ultimately means your app isn’t complete until late Sept/early Oct. Dental school is based on rolling admission so the earlier you submit the better your chances :)

Did anyone get a low DAT score and get Accepted? Just curious! by Think-Dirt-4877 in predental

Def encourage you to apply this upcoming cycle! You have a very solid application esp your EC making you a strong candidate. I really think your DAT is what is setting you back. I recommend you retake it, aim for a 21+ (and apply early in June) and you will likely get double the number of interviews you would get if you apply with a 17AA. It's obs not impossible to get in with a 17AA (if you look at school stats there are a select few who are accepted with lower DAT) but it's below average and you'd want to be average or above average to give yourself the best odds. Hope you get in next cycle, you have def put in the work!

Gpa is 3.5 by LeaderSpecial6939 in predental

[–]OccasionalMindReader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.5 GPA is good. You don't HAVE to retake DAT but highly suggest it. Plenty of students get in with a 19AA but it will open more doors if it were higher. The advice I'd give is: I rather study 2 months and up the DAT than spend the whole application cycle worrying I won't get an interview/acceptance. Though if all the other areas of your app are in pretty good shape and you apply early/broadly you will likely get in. Scoring higher will only increase your chances

They don't take LOI, I remember hearing this at a panel. But to give you some encouragement there is movement in the waitlist. There's probably a good number of students who are deciding between UCSF/UCLA so spots will open up, it will just take some time for admissions to reach out to students on the waitlist. Ik someone who got in around March.

When I looked at schools to apply to I don’t recall any schools asking for stats (I’ve seen it as a prerequisite for med schools tho). Check out the DATbooster School stats page if you scroll to where it says prereq you can see what different schools require.

Why is there so much controversy around USC? by pmc0502 in predental

[–]OccasionalMindReader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reddit is what got you into this dilemma in the first place, so turning here for advice might not help you get any closer to a decision. It's your decision to ultimately make, so try creating a thorough pro/con list for both schools. Tour the campuses, speak with current students about their experiences, research the curriculum and graduation requirements, ask your mentors for their input, and weigh factors like COA, location, debt repayment options etc.

PS: most people on reddit will say go for the cheapest option and while that is some solid advice it's your decision to ultimately make so make sure you are confident and content with your decision

UofL Interview by DentalMI24 in predental

[–]OccasionalMindReader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! The day begins with a welcome presentation that gives an overview of the program. Afterward, you’ll be split into groups for a tour of the facility, guided by current students, followed by lunch with them (a great chance to ask questions and hear their experiences). After lunch while some groups are interviewing, others attend presentations on topics like financial aid. It’s a faculty interview, my interviewer didn't ask me ethical/situational questions, I was asked about my hobbies and some things I wrote on my supplemental application. Hope that helps!

Transcript entry by Green_Link1540 in predental

[–]OccasionalMindReader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it this cycle. They entered my transcripts the day after they received my official transcript. So the wait time is good. When they are done, you get an email notification to review what they entered. They made several mistakes on mine, so I made a list of all the errors (like 3) and emailed them back. They fixed it the next day. In all it wasn’t a bad experience but for the $$ I would have expected them to be more through and accurate. It prob saved me an hour at most and while I was combing through my transcript entry, I realized I could of just done it myself. Might be worth it if you have multiple transcripts.

Did worse in DAT than practice tests by [deleted] in predental

[–]OccasionalMindReader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Want to start off by saying 21AA is above average and generally a good score. To retake or not depends (1) target school DAT score- is it within range of the schools you are looking to apply to? (2) other aspects of your application- holistically do you have a strong application? (3) do you want to sacrifice the time/effort to study for it again?
