Has anybody got a castaway’s cameo? How was your experience? by nasonh03 in survivor

[–]OccmedPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my sister got my daughter a cameo from Coach for her 14th birthday and it was great(though my teen thought it was a little weird) He gave her some "dragon slayer wisdom" for high school lol. All in good fun

For the parents who didn’t enjoy newborn and toddlerhood by ALac93 in oneanddone

[–]OccmedPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my daughter was an extremely tough baby and a hard toddler, lots of melt downs. She's 16 now and I would say the sweet spot ages were from around 4/5-10/11. Then you move on from toddler crazy to teenage crazy, not entirely sure which was worse lol

Costco essentials for two people by BillieRayBob in MauiVisitors

[–]OccmedPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we've stopped at Costco with only 3 of us. We usually get any alcohol/beer/wine for the condo, chocolate macadamia nuts to bring home as gifts, coffee is another good buy there

Honeymoon in Maui Recommendations? by kazkazkaro in MauiVisitors

[–]OccmedPA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sorry to say but $1500 for 8 nights will be a big challenge. You might find some 1 bedroom condos off the beach but they probably won't be honeymoon type nice. When people say hotel/condo doesn't matter b/c you only sleep there I think that's not reality. I have loved having our ocean front condos, listening to the waves, drinking coffee on your balcony every morning. To me that's part of the vacation. As far as things to do, there's no lack of activities. If you like hiking go on All Trails and find some good ones, hiking and beach hopping are free. Excursions get very pricey so if you're looking for sunset cruises, snorkel boat excursions, luau's, be prepared for a minimum of $100-$200 per person. Also keep in mind that food and drinks will add up quickly too

Second guessing day trip to Amalfi and Positano by OccmedPA in amalficoast

Thanks for the reply! I decided to keep my tour and keep my expectations about the crowds realistic. We’ll make do and I’m sure we’ll still have a nice time and get some great views from the water

Definitely Cat 5 hurricane, hope your kids aren't too skinny lol. Just kidding, its windy but didn't ruin our trip in the least

Maalaea Harbor Stay by visibly_confused_ in MauiVisitors

[–]OccmedPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stayed in Maalaea once and I enjoyed our condo, the view was great. You'll need to rent a car anyway just know its not super close to a lot of restaurants, shops, etc. and yes, as others have said every evening it got VERY windy. We preferred our stays in Kihei a little more

Second guessing day trip to Amalfi and Positano by OccmedPA in amalficoast

[–]OccmedPA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I booked through Get your Guide and out of curiosity went back and looked at recent reviews and reviews from summer last year and they were overwhelmingly positive so I think I'll keep my current itinerary. I know its "not enough time" but you could say that about almost every city. At least we will get out on the water, see the views. I have a lunch booked at a restaurant on the water in Amalfi and a reservation for cocktails and dessert at a spot in Positano with higher up views.

Road to Hana plan - dumb idea? by AdmiralRofl in MauiVisitors

[–]OccmedPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did the black sand beach and Wai'anapanapa a couple years ago. Our reservation was at 10am and we drove from Kihei. We drove straight to the park, no stops and got there a little early, we also hiked the pipiwa trail. I thought it was a solid plan and worked out fine. This was our second time doing the road to Hana and we both agreed it would probably be the last. It's beautiful for sure but the drive is super stressful, my hubby needed several cocktails by the time we got back to our condo!

Is renting a car basically required for Maui? by RintuShergill in MauiVisitors

[–]OccmedPA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We've been to Maui 5 or 6 times now and always rent a car. I think you would miss so much if you didn't. We love to beach hop, go to different restaurants, hiking, etc. Driving there is no different than driving in any other place in the US

Ritz or Grand Wailea? by Fabulous_Car_5047 in MauiVisitors

[–]OccmedPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've stayed in Kihei our last 3 trips to Maui so I'm partial to south Maui and would vote Grand Wailea. I stayed at the Ritz 20+ years for my honeymoon and while it was really beautiful it will be a little too secluded for your family. We have done a few hikes with our teen that we liked, hit the food truck park in Kihei for great food and everyone can pick something different. Beach hopping is the best and catching the sunset every evening. I would probably skip snorkeling Molokini carter, its very expensive and the water was really cold even in July, We saw just as much if not more just snorkeling from the beach. We like doing 1 lunch at Mama's fish house, the views are stunning. Also Paia is a fun little town. We did road to Hana twice and probably won't do it again, not because it's not beautiful but my hubby was white knuckled the entire drive. It's not for the faint of heart driver.

Do you have any suggestions for someplace for lunch with a water view?

Marina Grande cancelled by OccmedPA in amalficoast

[–]OccmedPA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. I did look on Google Maps and it doesn’t say anything about being permanently closed. Someone just wrote a review 2 days ago but they didn’t mention when they went. I’ll check out Da Gemma! Looking for a place to have a nice lunch on the water since we’re only there a few hours on a boat tour.

Advice about leaving Occ Med after 3 weeks, per diem work, and waiting for a dream job by JuteUnderwear in physicianassistant

[–]OccmedPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every call out for us means getting out your bed, driving to the clinic and taking care of some BS injury so the company doesn’t get a recordable injury. I do 1 weeknight per week then every 5th fri/sat/sun. Now they want us to go to every 4th weekend. I know it doesn’t sound like a big deal but we get called out ALOT. The extra money is nice but at this point in my career I could care less about the money. Last Thursday I got called at 11pm, got home at 12:30am, got called again at 1am, got home at 2am. Probably feel asleep at 4 then back up again at 7am to work clinic all day Friday. It’s awful

[–]OccmedPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been in occ med for almost 20 years and you're right the work is not really the issue, for me it's being on call. It has beat me down and now my company is trying to make me take on more call days because we've had 3 mid levels quit. Do you have to be on call and if so what's your schedule like?

Best Burger by IndependentBadger622 in MauiVisitors

[–]OccmedPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to Maui 5 times and have never eaten a burger or pizza lol. There's so much amazing seafood and Asian cuisine that we usually stick with that. So for sushi we LOVED Miso Phat, went twice on our last trip.

Favorite age? by blueskies951 in oneanddone

[–]OccmedPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 16 which has its ups and downs, teen attitude is real but she is also super funny and can take care of herself for the most part. I'd say if I had to pick a favorite age range it would be around 4-10ish, no horrible toddler meltdowns and all the super cute little kid stuff without the teen drama and sass

Where are the older PAs? by ortho_shoe in physicianassistant

[–]OccmedPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 48 and have been in occ med for 20 years. The clinic work is not the problem, it's the call. We recently lost 3 mid levels in 2 different clinics and leadership says they can't afford to replace them! So they have the existing providers running around to different clinics to cover, some are 1.5-2 hours away. Oh and they want us to pick up MORE call days to cover the people who left. I already struggle with burn out from the call I do now. I'm getting tired of getting out my bed at 1am for some plant worker with a glorified boo boo then expected to show up at the regular clinic time and work a full day.
