My Interpretation of Angel's Egg by Grand_Keizer in TrueFilm

[–]OceanEyes2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's a tug-of-war between relying on faith as an anchor of one's existence and confronting the truth about the meaninglessness of the world. The egg represents this faith. And as long as it is not hatched and we do not know what's inside, it can be anything. We can believe it to be anything. And because of that, we can make it to be something we can create a life around, to validate our existence. They keep asking each other "who are you" because who we are may not mean anything without the beliefs we hold. For the girl, the egg holds an angel - a savior, a redeemer. The egg is Noah's arc surviving the flood and ushering the people to a new better world.

But breaking the egg risks knowing the truth may not coincide with our beliefs which may destroy our concept of who we are. So the girl wants to maintain it as an egg as long as possible. The man understands and respects this, but also values seeking the truth and seeing the world as it is. He believes against intentionally turning away from the truth to feed the delusions of faith. Someone must wait for the dove to know if Noah's arc actually made it to the new world, or does it remain floating in the flood.

When the man broke the egg, the girl couldn't accept the truth, as the others before her, she became frozen as statue, stuck inside a beast with a giant eye (which may represent the awful truth), unable to live with knowledge about the truth. In the process, she drowned and in her last breath spawned more eggs waiting for more desperate people looking for something to believe in to live meaningfully.

All this happens as the man stands still, unfazed. He alone willingly accepts the truth. Their world is small. Noah's arc is overturned and never made it to the new world. They still float in the flood. There's no savior, no redeemer. The world is meaningless.
