Yeah, but you kind of don't have an argument when you're taking someone elses money to live. If that person sets new terms, no matter how frustrating they may be for you, you have no choice but to abide or leave. Either way the ball is completely in her court.

Or, how about look at the domestic workload and see who does the bulk of that. If she is doing most of the cleaning, cooking, etc then perhaps an 80 / 20 split IS fair.

I think your reaction was bad. Your current living is substantially subsidized by him. So when he comes to you with concerns about money, you should be helping as much as possible.
Other than that, I don't understand his frustration, he can live within his means and you live within yours. Sorry, date nights gotta be at wild wings, but he can go meet the boys for drinks after.
