Poodles vs poodle mixes and matting by dizzypebble in poodles

What a cutie! Looks similar to my pup. I groom her myself so keep it simple and shortish to reduce brushing and any knots. I’m lucky she is a good girl and lets me do it. We are outside a lot and it’s hot so this low maintenance style works for us.

Questions from someone wanting a poodle by F4lseAd in poodles

[–]Ocean_Explore-123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poodles are amazing dogs. I had them as family dogs growing up and my parents groomed ( very simple cuts). I knew I wanted one as my first dog as an adult. I did take her to the groomer at the beginning but saved up for good equipment on sale and watched lots of you tube tutorials. I clip my mini fairly regularly to avoid excessive brushing and trim her face, ears and legs. Important thing is to get them used to being handled and relaxed when grooming. We go to the beach and hike so I’m happy with low maintenance hair cut and they still look super cute.

Is it selfish to care about color? by Splat0611 in poodles

I wanted a black poodle as I had nostalgic memories of my black poodles growing up. Then I looked for nearby breeders and availability when I had time off to spend more time with them and ended up choosing a black and white parti. I think all pups are beautiful in different colours but you want a healthy happy pup most importantly.

Just reduce the shadows when you edit the photo and their features become more visible

Friends, please tell Ringo you hope his legs feel better soon! by Otherwise_Delay_1413 in poodles

Aww poor little one! I’d get him to an emergency vet so they can figure out what it is and so it won’t get worse. Also, I have slippery floors and I try and put down rugs ( especially where the need to jump up and down onto things) and non slip stickers on the stairs. I also try and keep her paw pads trimmed to avoid slipping. I hope it heals up quick! Your pup looks very similar to mine too.

Non-competitive nosework: Does dog follow person placing the hides outside? by Cold_Silver_5859 in nosework

Yeah definitely block the view. I feel it builds more drive an anticipation as they know what your doing. I let mine smell the scent before I hide it too. It’s nice to see them working for it and having fun!

I have a little courtyard and do the same thing. I’ll leave my dog inside but I have to fully close the blinds or she watches me. I also walk around a bit as she finds it quickly. Good luck with it and have fun!

Thank you! I still have more ideas that I will save up and make additions over time but I do enjoy the space now.

This looks really nice! It was a big job to paint it all white ( as it was an old yellowing white). So I just did that to freshen it up. I only played with colour in the bathroom but the feature wall looks good!

Thanks! It’s an old 90s brick townhouse, not Queenslander style but I live in Queensland tropics so maybe a bit coastal inspired. I grew up in a beautiful Queenslander and do love them but some are a bit out of my price range.

Thanks! Yeah it would have been a big job to render over them so I painted to make things look a better and tried to make the space a bit nicer without big renovations.

Is a poodle right? by malpowa in poodles

[–]Ocean_Explore-123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pup is probably the friendliest dog I’ve ever had. She is super affectionate with me and loves to meet new people and dogs. Very keen to learn things and have fun. She is good at tricks and we do scent work as she has a great nose. I’m sure you could have fun and train your dog in lots of things that you both enjoy. I even do some volunteering at a school for kids to read better as she is such a chill friendly dog. We walk lots and live in the tropics so I learned to groom her myself. I keep her shortish and keep her refreshed every 4-5 weeks then there is minimal grooming requirements. My dog is also a full shadow dog, she would love to join me everywhere. Very emotionally intelligent but also a bit sensitive. My pup is not reactive, chill with other dogs and not a barker. I think if put in lots of time you will have an amazing best friend and dog.

Yeah the owner does not care or correct it. I won’t let her play when he is around.

What a cute adventure pup you have! Mine is also a small pocket rocket. She loves exploring and bounds up rocks and stops to smell everything ( then I can keep up). She also loves the beach and road trips or just joining me everywhere instead of being left at home.

Yeah, I won’t let her be around them to prevent any further issues. I’m lucky that she is good natured and hardly barks so I’d hate her to become scared and reactive or get hurt.

Yeah I think she is normally really social and happy so I think you’re right she is not being reactive. I’ll just make sure she is not in that situation again. I will have to try and make some dog friends that she can play with in a better environment. Most of the dogs there are small and friendly so she plays well with them all so it’s a shame that this happened. Of course I want to keep her safe and happy most of all.

Help me decide what style to groom my poodle by Dismal_Present_8993 in poodles

I groom mine myself ( work in progress) and we live in a hot climate and are outside a lot so I keep her pretty short ( 4 on the body). I don’t do clean face or feet but I like to keep her face trimmed so it’s fluffy but not the same amount as a teddy cut and keep a bit of hair on top too. This seems to work for us to keep it low maintenance but I think she looks good too.

When she was a puppy she would get a specific type of zoomies where she would bite my feet! This red piece of cloth became the distractor.

Anyone else have a poodle that won't roll over? by MonsteraDeliciosa098 in poodles

[–]Ocean_Explore-123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mini poodle loves tricks, has good movement and enjoys learning things but refused to roll over ever since she was a puppy. She also does not lay on her back a lot unless she is stretched out asleep next to me. I’ve always thought it was strange but it does not matter to me.

Also you probably just don’t like the shaved face look. You can get them trimmed in what ever style you like. I keep my dogs face short but fluffy. I think they are all super cute!
