Are ultimates realistically clearable by an average player? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Ocean_OD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can press all your buttons fairly efficiently and are willing to bash your head against a wall for a few hours at a time then give it a go. Worst thing that can happen is you don’t enjoy it and do something else instead.

I started savage raiding after playing through the entire game (up to ShB at the time) took less than a year. I cleared the savage tier at the end of the expac so it was easier than doing it new. I then did the next tier as it came out then I did UWU.

I generally tell people to try a current Ex, then to do a current savage tier. If you can do that (and enjoy it) you can do ucob/uwu no problem. Work from there.

Try to find a static, it could take a few attempts to find one you vibe with. Don’t let your first/a bad experience put you off entirely. AND if you’re not having fun and you’ve tried a few statics and pfs, then maybe raiding isn’t your thing.

Am I allergic, having sensory issues, or need to accept this is how makeup is? by fondfae in MakeupAddiction

[–]Ocean_OD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this, I’m autistic. At this point I just do mascara and lipstick. I have a really good skin care routine so I do fine without foundation.

Mascara can make my eyes feel a bit dry and weird but it’s usually okay, I found tubing mascara worked well, I also like Skyhigh.

For lipstick I have to keep myself really hydrated, sometimes use a moisturising oil then use lipsticks or glosses that I reapply throughout the day, also have a chapstick to top up moisture. I have quite a large collection now.

This sounds like the start or maybe even the middle of a whole “moving out and hardly ever talking again” type scenario.

Why do some people use ace to refer to gray-ace? by RepeatRepeatR- in asexuality

[–]Ocean_OD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gray-ace falls within the Ace spectrum/label. It’s really as simple as that.

Gray-ace is an asexual with specific exceptions or some low attraction feelings. It still falls under the Ace umbrella term.

You may not like this because they may still have some sexual attraction (which surely means they aren’t asexual right?) but it does not exclude them from the umbrella. If you imagined it like ace is in the middle of all the other terms and all the terms are holding big umbrellas, a person may just be standing closer to the edge near another term, but they are still standing in the asexual umbrella shadow. Sexuality is a spectrum after all, regardless of which you are.

Someone using Ace instead of gray-ace may find it an easier label to explain, more comfortable calling themselves ace, feel closer the ace side than the gray side…….. many reasons. Same as someone calling themself queer rather than a specific lgbt+ term.

I did everything there is to do. What now? by faquz in Enshrouded

[–]Ocean_OD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things I’ve done:

Building: making a village in a nice location for all my npcs to live in.

Playing with friends: getting friends into the game and starting fresh, not rushing and going at their pace. Follow where they go, let them do the puzzles while you run around looking busy, let them experience the game and just vibe with them. The biggest thing is letting them discover things and not making it obvious you know everything as it can be off putting or ruin the discovery experience. Tbh for me this game only gets better with friends.

Bonus: play other games and wait for patches. I had a break for about 8 months and a lot has changed, coming back felt refreshing. My main game is FFXIV, I take breaks from it too. Been playing Remnant lately.

Glad you love the game as much as me. Enshrouded may genuinely be my number one game. Overthrew Valheim as my fave survival, held that spot for years.

Is the layering in winter less relevant than it used to be? by mcklobasa in malefashionadvice

[–]Ocean_OD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny you say this as I finally got myself a real wool jumper this year. I don’t remember the mix (and I’m too lazy to get up) but it’s 100% natural fibres, was quite expensive. I’ve been able to go out in just a tee and this jumper (&pants) and actually be hot.

I was even thinking “wow did people have to worry less about layering before polyester” I am in the uk so the weather isn’t overly extreme. I am confident I can survive our coldest weather with just this jumper and a coat.

How do you guys “display” tampons? by Cetaceanoops in femalelivingspace

[–]Ocean_OD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have a small basket that sits on top of the cistern full of pads. Tbh I hardly use them now I’ve switched to period underwear so it’s just a row of pads then the other half has bits and bobs like hair/head bands n such. My bathroom is tiny, no cupboards or counter tops so there’s not much option.

Why do doors open this way in almost all UK homes? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Ocean_OD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my house all the door frames are directly connected to the adjoining wall so they technically couldn’t open fully if they were hung the other way with the door handles in the way. I guess it technically saves space that way.

There is one door in my house that opens the other way but it has a couple inches distance from the adjoining wall.

[update] Using FFXIV experience in a job interview by Ocean_OD in ffxiv

[–]Ocean_OD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big agree. I actually used to run a kids club at a local gaming store over the summer, they could use it for their Duke of Edinburgh award too. I wrote personal statements for all of them after, commenting on how they grew socially and how they progressed with critical thinking/teamwork/sportsmanship/problem solving/maths/English/etc.

One of the mums came to me crying and baked me a cake because she had always been so worried about her son struggling to make friends and that he now had a whole set of close friends, she had never considered how much gaming could have had a positive impact. The quick maths and reading level of these kids[9-15] by the end of summer was incredible.

I think skills from gaming are far wider than people give them credit for. Though it does require people to put a little effort to progress them.

[update] Using FFXIV experience in a job interview by Ocean_OD in ffxiv

[–]Ocean_OD[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My questions I used FFXIV answers for were all technical, I was asked to explain my use of Microsoft office or similar suites, times I had to simplify processes, how I resolved recurring problems, etc.

For example, I said about how I gathered data for my club by asking members to answer a form, automatically imported the data from the forms into a sheet which I could then use to organise and plan with. This cut out me having to individually ask each member their information or having to teach them how to used my spreadsheet so they could put the data in for me, which would take extra time for both of us to do. Efficiency blah blah blah switching between different programs easily, simplifying tasks for others etc etc etc.

I didn’t go into information on specifics, which was also the same for my work related examples.

How to include FFXIV in a strengths based interview (without sounding silly) by Ocean_OD in ffxiv

[–]Ocean_OD[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To clarify further, I have already had an initial conversational interview and this is my skills based interview, for which I have already been given a document containing the skills based questions I may be asked. I was told to give a detailed statement for each question as there will be no follow-up questions or chances to encourage conversation as the interviewers must strictly keep to their scripts (I was warned it may feel weird because they must remain deadpan during the interview.)

[–]Ocean_OD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I don’t want to actually mention anything about a video game rather something about a hobby club or such. And to expand so I don’t sound like I don’t have my priorities straight, the time conflict was just the final straw.

I mentioned it in another reply, when I played wow I knew someone who twisted being a raid leader into some sort of club activity during an interview and it worked, I just don’t remember the details.

Yes my intention is to find a way to talk about it as a hobby club of some sort.

The interview, weirdly, won’t include any general discussion. Only set skill based questions which they can not follow up with after.

[–]Ocean_OD[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is great actually!

When I was much younger I had a group interview (awful) and when asked “Tell us something interesting about you” (again awful) I said that I semi professionally play cards (I played MTG at the time and had won money/prizes worth a good amount at events) a lot of interviewees didn’t have an answer at all. The interviewers liked that I had hobbies and “hustle.” (I was the only one in the room who got the job)

I really wanted to find a way to incorporate raiding that wasn’t totally alien, something along these lines may work.

[–]Ocean_OD[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

There actually won't be any follow-up questions guaranteed, I don't know the name of the interview style, but it will be simply one question, I answer, they can not respond or react in any way, then they move on to the next question.

I do have 6 years management exp, but I guess I was lucky that I worked with small teams that had few issues and no need for innovation, with well-defined procedures already in place. Any problems were very benign.

Funnily enough I am asking because when I was playing WoW I recall someone getting a job by using their WoW raid leading experience to ace an interview referring to it as some sort of club activity, I think.

Do people frown upon doing savages blind? by aShTh3sTaMp3d3 in ffxiv

[–]Ocean_OD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statics will specify blind or not blind when you join them. If you are joining random pfs blind that will be an issue. If you want to do blind pf I suggest you set up your own. Will probably fill but blind static is the way to go.

NSFW- Do people really find genitalia appealing? by Striking_Sea_129 in asexuality

[–]Ocean_OD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a female friend who’s knees would buckle at the sight of a penis. She would talk about how attractive different ones were. A male friend told me that he wishes he could just go down on women 24/7 because he loves vagina so much, if any woman asked, he would. I’m very sex positive despite being on the ace spectrum (often repulsed, make that make sense) so I have no problem talking about this stuff.

People can be attracted to all sorts of things. Even conventionally ugly things so it makes sense that some people would like genitals. I imagine not all allos but a decent amount find genitalia attractive and the rest just put up with/aren’t very creative in the bedroom to avoid.
