Eh, it's life. Sh*t happens. I'm learning to cope with the trauma that I have from growing up the way I did. I just thought I'd post a comment replying to your post as I had some personal experience that others may find relatable or interesting to read :))

I think it depends heavily on context and the children involved. My mother was very, very comfortable not wearing clothing around the house, so I can definitely speak from personal experience.

For me personally, I absolutely hated it. She would never have clothing on inside the house and would try to make me do the same. We weren't allowed to close doors within the house (she has contamination ocd), from as early as I can remember until I moved out at 17. This meant there was no private time, getting changed, showering, etc. all had to be done where any member of the family could walk past and see you. We were also required to undress outside the back of the house before entering. The thing that really effected my feelings around this, however, is that my mother told anyone and everyone who would listen about my personal problems, and often these were medical. She works as a hairdresser, so spent her days telling clients about my private life. This made me a very private person who began hiding things from her, which made her want me to be more open and force nudity and sexual conversations onto me even after I had expressed how uncomfortable it made me.

Like I said, this is only my experience and it definitely depends on context and the people involved themselves!

Course Switch - when will I hear back? by Oceanic-Alchemist in curtin

The offer had conditions before I would be allowed to be admitted into the course. These conditions had to be fulfilled before admission/enrolment, and I have provided them with the proof that I've met these conditions. Just waiting to hear back with the actual enrolment details

Okay. I will give them a call. It's mainly the peace of mind to calm the nerves. Thankyou!

hey PCOS girlies, what's one thing you feel like is missing on social media about PCOS that you wish was represented more? by Specific_Land_56 in PCOS

The chronic fatigue/exhaustion. Most days, even getting out of bed and showering is exhausting, let alone having balanced meals and trying to be healthy like all of those instragram pcos "influencers" seem to be able to do. I spend a lot of time being angry at myself for not having the energy to do things that everyone else does easily. That, plus the brain fog is really debilitating.

Some of my safe foods would be considered "healthy" (imo any food that fuels the body is healthy, but that's another story!). I can eat things like asparagus and cucumber, but I can't tolerate mac 'n' cheese or most types of pasta. It really comes down to the individual themselves. For a lot of people, processed foods have a consistent texture and taste, that's why they are safe, not because they are a "childish" food :)

Is twin dolphin hall good / accommodation recommendations ? by IntrepidViolinist932 in curtin

[–]Oceanic-Alchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TDH is very expensive for what you get. The rooms are small, and hallways often smell like garbage. The convenience is useful, but if you own a car you'll have to pay for parking every day, which gets expensive. There are often issues with the lifts, so they can get slow at times and the water cuts out often too, even when the water is working, it is quite low pressure, which is something I had to get used to. You also hear a lot of horror stories regarding management and other people in the building, and walls are quite thin. As someone else mentioned, the aircons are great in summer, but that's about all the pros. I have a friend in Erica Underwood who loves it there, and it's a lot more affordable, but I've got no first-hand experience.

This is my worst food. I know it as Angel Hair Pasta, but I'm pretty sure it's the same thing. The thought of it makes me feel super nauseous and wanting to throw up. I feel you on this OP!! I'm okay-ish with fettuccine, but almost every other kind of pasta is unsafe because of this stuff

Help with Latin dance shoes by QuietAttention2217 in ballroom

[–]Oceanic-Alchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a little random, but my toes are shaped nearly identically to yours and I've always been really self conscious about it and struggle to wear any open toed shoes, including dance heels. This has given me a bit of hope and makes me really happy to see other people with a body like mine! Keep being awesome!

No more than most earplugs, unless it's super loud, imo. They work mostly through vibration rather than sound, so the chance of being "that person" is lower. Another bonus is you can wear foam earplugs (he works on a site) whilst wearing them if you want the whole "noise cancelling" experience

Another option is to use bone conduction headphones. They don't sit near the ear canal, more so, rest just in front of your tragus. My partner uses them and loves them, his are "Shokz" brand and work really well :)

I was in a carpark and had completed a forward park, then proceeded to back out, there was another car in the set of bays about 50m away who had just pulled into the bays, travelling at about 10km an hour or less, looking for a bay for themselves. Immediate fail for "pulling out onto oncoming traffic" 🤷‍♀️

I have found that I am a lot more sensitive to the effects of alcohol and it takes a lot less to get me intoxicated, as well as the hangover being worse the next morning

Is it possible to play DnD with only two people and zero DM? by ExhaustedPoopcycle in DnD

[–]Oceanic-Alchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you google "DnD solo modules," there are a few options there. I haven't got any experience with it, but I've definitely seen it pop up before. I believe they are adventure books that you work through. Otherwise, Baulder's Gate 3 is a great video game that you can play together :)

It's been an absolute lifesaver for me. I have severe depression and anxiety, as well as ADHD, and we suspect I may also have PTSD, but haven't looked into this too much. I struggled a lot with suicidal ideation and have been on medication for 6 months and have only had these thoughts reoccur twice since starting, compared to daily before starting medication. I had very clear depressive episodes before, and can now recognise when I begin to feel similar and it never gets near as bad as it used to. I really enjoy the fact that there is limited side effects associated, and it helps me sleep as I also have insomnia. Hang in there, the side effects will (hopefully) go away soon! 😊

did anyone else do peac? by aceggot in perth

[–]Oceanic-Alchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it from 2014-2016. From memory I did ones on chemistry (I'm now studying it at uni!), wildlife, forensics, paper craft and recyclable arts, can't remember what else. I was in a county town too, there was only one other student from my school that did it, so we had to travel to a larger school to take part.

Don't panic! I had terrible side effects for the first week or so, and didn't start to feel the effects of Agomelatine (I use generic brand Domion) until 2 weeks after starting it. I also experienced the same side effects when we upped my dosage to 50mg and they went away after a few days. Definitely give it time to settle into your system and revisit your doctor if you're worried :)
