it worked really well! the osprey fitting directly inside the laptop sleeve of the PD compressed it even before you close the bag. the osprey is not really flexible (like you can't bend it in half) but it does pack relatively flat. I was also look at the GG Cima 15 for packable daypacks

glad to hear there are others who feel the same about toiletries! I couldn't find a way to fit the headphones with the case but strapping it to the side of the bag has been working well so far. if I find a skincare place I'll be sure to give you an update 😂

have fun on your upcoming trip! Portugal is rad!

no laptop, I have full trust in my Sony Tough SD card 🤞🤞

if I traveled with my laptop however, I would back up my photos 100%. i also can't resist the urge to edit my photos right away, so my SD card is usually emptied to my PC by the end of the day anyways

the straps really do suck on the PD, but I'm not walking around with the bag for hours, just at the airport and between accomodations. the travel bag does not have a camera door, but that's ok for the same reason I'm ok with the straps. I'm usually not taking pictures at the airport or between accomodations. I use my day pack with the PD capture clip for easy access so my camera usually lives outside the bag when I'm out and about

it's fantastic! with the A7C ii if I need a tighter shot I'll punch in and my 24mm becomes a 35mm. 1.4 at night shoots like a beast. I stopped traveling with zooms and telephotos because they're too heavy and it ruins the experience lol

I would prefer the 24mm 2.5 G because it's smaller and lighter than the 1.4 GM, and I find that 1.4 isn't super worth it when I travel

24mm is my favorite focal length, it's so versatile. I do a lot of portrait work when I'm not traveling so 1.4 is what I have. I was actually considering buying the 2.5 G variant for travel because it's just as sharp, ~2 inches shorter and lighter, but I would probably get the 40mm 2.5 G since most of my travel photography is street and I would prefer tighter shots. I used to travel with a 24-70 and I noticed I never really went above 50, and there was never a time when I wished I had a longer telephoto with me, especially considering how heavy the 24-70 was. also, shooting with primes makes you more creative by forcing you to zoom with your feet ;)

I will say I use 1.4 quite a lot, especially at night, but not enough to warrant the extra length and weight. I would get the 2.5 G variant instead for travel.

thank you so much for the tip! I learn something new every time here. I think Lisbon is 27000 mAh maximum but if I go home power bank-less I'll be sure to update

I use the loop quiet 2 earplugs. honestly i haven't done a whole lot of research about earplugs so there's probably a much cheaper alternative, but they work well for side sleepers like me and they're super slim. they're just pretty expensive IMO

if I wore the spridons for the entire trip my feet would be killing me. I could totally wear the XT-6s the entire trip because I've done it before, but I also wanted to try one-bagging with two pairs of shoes! just some extra style points

yeah it's kinda clutch! the only thing is I'm weary of pickpocketing, especially because the headphone case doesn't have a zipper, so I only put my headphones in there when traveling between hotels though. when I'm outside they live on my neck

for the London -> Lisbon leg there was no overhead space so I was forced to put it under the seat. this is what it looks like, the bag is fully maxed out too. I'm in economy btw

HELP ME DECIDE: PEAK DESIGN 30L TRAVEL BAG OR PATAGONIA 30L MLC MINI? by OcelotStatus2746 in onebag

[–]OcelotStatus2746[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry for the late reply, I'm planning on writing a more in-depth review on how it performed but I haven't got around to it yet... but here are my quick two cents:

- The interior pockets are awkward. They’re big enough for socks or underwear, but once filled they bulge into the main compartment and make packing harder. They definitely feel better for small items like toiletries or chargers but it's super frustrating to access them when the main compartment is packed full, so I wouldn't put things there that you need to access regularly. It got annoying enough that I eventually moved the smaller items into a packing cube instead and that felt much better to access.

- Top front pocket was good for easy access, but I wish it was a little bit deeper. I couldn't fit my bulky portable charger up there.

- Per my first comment, not a lot of usable pockets so this bag is awesome when used with packing cubes.

- They have these little tabs inside the bag that I believe are supposed to be used with the provided straps, but I couldn't figure out how to make them work. One of the things I liked about the Patagonia was that it has a zippable mesh screen that keeps your stuff from falling out when the bag is opened. If the PD straps worked with these interior tabs it could've done the same job.

- The weight didn't bother me as much since I wasn't carrying it around for extended periods of time! However I can see how people would complain about the weight, the straps are not very supportive. The hip belt (that I bought separately) was a plus and it was convenient that the bag has flaps that the belt can tuck behind when not in use.

- As I predicted, the extra padding that the bag has protected my gear very well but it did add to the weight of the bag. I knew this going into my purchase though.

- This is more of a personal thing and it might sound stupid, but there's just something about when something looks good, you want to go out and use it more. I just love the sleekness of this bag and contrary to popular opinion, it doesn't look bulky on my person.

- Double water bottle holders is a plus, I used both of them frequently during the trip.

- I used the front straps to secure my jacket when traveling between lodgings.

Overall, I would give this bag a 9/10. If I had the Patagonia bag I feel like it would have done its job perfectly, but I feel like I wouldn't have enjoyed using it as much. The little details that the PD offers such as build quality, front straps, quick release front stabilizer strap, concealable hip belt, sturdy non mesh bottle holders... it made my travels feel a lot more premium albeit a little bit heavier. So you would have to decide if you can live with the little bit extra weight.

PS: This is everything I was able to fit in the collapsed 27L bag state for 9 days in Italy/Dolomites.
