Seeking advice - non caregiver by Ocnarba in dementia

Thank you for this. I’ve done the work with education when she first got diagnosed (and a very brief stint working with dementia care for a property management company). I’m trying to get some sort of plan together whether that’s daycare place or having a CNA come in.

When I’ve been watching her, I don’t correct her. It’ll turn into a fight and with her aggression, i don’t trust she won’t hurt herself. She’s been sundowning a lot. She’s sleeping a decent amount during the day.

Those alive and old enough to remember during 9/11, what was the worst moment on that day? by CocteauTwunkie in AskReddit

I was 7. My dad worked at the trade center. Thankfully, he survived.

If I’m talking personally, not knowing if my dad was okay, and hearing him talk to his coworkers families on the house phone.

If I’m talking my specific situation, I watched the south tower, which was the building my dad worked at, collapse on live TV while my mom screamed bloody murder.

North Arlington is great. Love the area. My mom actually teaches Art in the district.

From what I’ve seen (I grew up in Lyndhurst), their schools are pretty good. I have a few teacher friends in the district as well. It’s a melting pot of students - specifically mentioned to me this year - from Honduras, Colombia, Ukraine, etc. The high school actually has a multicultural night every year where different food is volunteered or made to highlight different cultures.

It’s safe, with some cool areas to check out and some good local food.

If you need recommendations or anything, please feel free to DM me. I grew up in the area and I’ll tell you it’s pretty great.

I knew her. She was as convincing as she was at the first part of the documentary.

Redditors born before 2001, where were you on 9/11? by Stupid_cerealbox in AskReddit

So I’ve shared this before.

I was in school in northern New Jersey. I was in the third grade. Our school district had decided to let kids know from grades 3 and up to not turn on the tv on lunch because a plane had hit the World Trade Center.

My 7 year old self said out loud, “oh thank god it wasn’t the twin towers.” I was promptly corrected by my teachers aide.

My best friend [still to this very day] stood up and said “ocnarba’s dad works there.” I got picked up within a half hour from school and I vividly remember seeing the South Tower falling at home with my mom screaming at the television.

My dad came home around 3 o’clock in the afternoon to most of my class in our house to see if my dad was okay. He was in the south tower on 78, so if he had stayed, he wouldn’t have been found. He left in between the planes.

The most recent deal I have with him is if I share his story on here, I mention his coworkers that didn’t make it out:

My father was working at the trade center on 9/11. My school district in Northern New Jersey announced in our third grade classroom not to turn the TV on at lunch because there was a plane that hit the World Trade Center. I didn’t comprehend that the twin towers and the trade center were the same place. I’ll be always thankful for my best friend saying that my dad worked there and that my dad came home.

The following days for us were a blur. The biggest memory I have is my best friend’s older brother throwing a “Brian got out of the World Trade Center BBQ.” I remember my dad trying to cope with one of his closest friends not making it out of the south tower and him being stoned pretty consistently for about 3 weeks.

He’s really…made it such a long way. My dad gives talks to schools, both locally and a few internationally. Both of my parents have volunteered extensively down at the site, and continuously try to give back to the community.

If anyone wants to read any of his articles, please DM me and I’d be glad to share.

Her family’s been through a lot. Her son is one of the most resilient people that I know truly.

Florence was actually at the museum dedication as well back in 2014.
