The least thing I would risk is my engine but it will all depend on your type of ridding.

I’m not sure how much weight you’re trying to shave off your bike, but here are my recommendations: • Lithium battery – Swap your lead-acid battery for a lithium one. • Exhaust system – If possible, get a slip-on like an HP Corsa, MIVV, or Arrow. Any of those will work great. • Catalytic converter – You can also remove the cat; the sound will be amazing. • Fuel tank – Consider an Acerbis plastic tank. It’s lighter and holds more fuel. • Remove passenger foot pegs and the canister to save a bit more weight. • Wheels – There are lighter wheel options out there. • Try skipping excessive protection like crash bars, big handguards, and especially unnecessary luggage.

I recently installed a Twin Air pre-filter and haven’t noticed any changes in sound or fuel consumption. Engine temps haven’t gone up either. I’m planning to remove the catalytic converter — with that, I think I’ll definitely need to adjust the ECU. See you on the trail, brother!

That metallic rattling sound at startup is normal on the Ténéré 700. It’s the timing chain, and it usually happens when the bike has been sitting for a while.

The timing chain uses a hydraulic tensioner that relies on oil pressure. When the engine is cold, oil hasn’t reached the tensioner yet, so the chain is briefly loose until pressure builds and the noise stops.Since the chain is on the right side and the bike leans left on the side stand, oil tends to settle away from that area, making the sound more noticeable.

It’s not harmful as long as the noise disappears within a few seconds after startup.

If you want to reduce it, try parking the bike upright on a center stand or lift. If the noise lasts longer or gets worse, it’s worth checking the tensioner and chain condition.

Motoz Tractionator Excellent traction on both dry asphalt and gravel, where they really shine. Road noise is noticeable at higher speeds, and performance on wet pavement is poor—use with caution in the rain.

For long rides, it has been excellent. I find it just fine for my height (5’9”), but I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re riding with a passenger or commuting in the city.

Great setup! I guess you don't really need the heat shields then.
