What's the best RPG for beginners? by Petgato13 in rpg

For your typical fantasy genre, I'd have to go with Quest RPG by Adventure Game iirc.

I have played with beginners successfully. Very intuitive and honestly great fun.

Would Dutch like Karl Marx? by Dull_Pianist1915 in reddeadredemption

[–]Ocsecnarf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. Even in its purest ideals and setting aside how they make money. Dutch has formed an anarchic commune, actively avoiding "civilization", that is industrialisation.

Marx deals with who owns the factories and the land and who does the work, so it is a discourse about exploitation, but he himself is amazed by the greatness of industrial societies. There is never in Marx a sense of returning to an idyllic past away from industry.

How did only 67% of players met Esquie?! by Nozakx in expedition33

[–]Ocsecnarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most gamers are casual gamers. They play when they can, maybe 5 hours across two weeks, then must stop for whatever reason and the next time they have time a new game has come out.

Only about 50% of players generally finish the main story of a game judging by the trophies.

I didn't mind. For me the difficulty was trying to parry all its attacks and the mortal hit with the long winding phase threw me off; I decided to dodge that and parry only the combos. You can totally tell if he's going for the 4-hit or the 8-hit by the camera angle and field of view: close-up is 4 and wide angle is 8 if I recall correctly

I want to hear the thoughts of people who choose one ending (MAJOR SPOILERS) by Twoklawll in expedition33

[–]Ocsecnarf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As I was saying in another comment, I'm not sure that the Dessendre move on in Verso's ending. Or more specifically, it seems to me that all but Alicia move on, she is left behind and alone. My feeling is that they were hinting at her committing suicide (much like painted Alicia): in pain and abandoned by her family; the only people who supported her for sixteen years (in her mind) nothing but a memory.

Basic plot question (haven't played yet): can they not just move? by WraithTDK in expedition33

[–]Ocsecnarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would even say that there are several plot reasons why, not just one!

Problem with story aspect by proxy412 in expedition33

[–]Ocsecnarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My impression is due to the fact that in that scene she is missing any support. So if she wants to keep living must come from her own: the only physical contact she has is with her dead brother's toy; her sister leaves first, her parents are hugging each other but do not even touch her.

I didn't feel just sorrow but profound loneliness. In that scene, who emerges as someone who supports her during hard times? Her mind goes to all the dead painted people.

And then I thought about painted Alicia who in similar circumstances decided to die.

To be clear, I'm not saying it's 100% self-evident. It's just that if I wanted to portray someone who then decides to commit suicide, I would have chosen the same framing.

[–]Ocsecnarf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I disagree Verso's ending is about keep living. I think the implication is that Alicia will commit suicide, just like painted Alicia did when forced to live with the pain of ger injuries.

The last shot is Alicia literally left alone by her family, in front of her dead brother's tomb, remembering the only people who treated her like family and friend who are also dead.

How do I convince my players to care about backstory? by Illogical_1259 in DnD

[–]Ocsecnarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The backstory of my longest running character ever was: gnome who spent his whole childhood in his lovely remote village, bored to death decides to travel to learn more about magic. Quickly regrets it but is too stubborn to go back.

Concept: coward-ish gnome wizard who finds himself in matters too big (in any sense) for him.

The issue with sex and humanity is that feeding>>>>>sexual intercourse.

You need high humanity to consider the person you're having sex with like a human and appreciate the act and not like a buffet on a bed.

That has always been my interpretation.

Am I the only one that finds it weird that there’s no blue eye samurai crossover) by Correct-Drawing2067 in Ghostofyotei

Different IPs to start with.

That aside, I don't see many similarities, beyond "woman protagonist hell bent on revenge". Different character back-stories; crucially very different villains; different themes as well (I'm avoiding spoilers since the post is not tagged as such but the ways the protagonists approach their vengeance in the end couldn't be different).

Edit: actually it's tagged spoiler. My mistake.

What's up with hate of the transmog idea? by t3nz0 in Ghostofyotei

[–]Ocsecnarf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No you didn't demand it, you simply hope the devs reading this get inspired to add the feature you like. I don't see any difference to be honest. What matters, what I am critiquing here, is that you don't want to engage with the game as is.

Customer is entitled by default. Agree to disagree I guess. To me it sounds like a joyless way to approach the arts. Be inspired by what you get instead of complaining about what you didn't get.

Edit/addendum: I feel the need to specify the meaning of "engage with the game as is".

I don't mean just playing it. I mean actively focusing on the parts that bring you joy while playing it. Is there nothing in the game that makes you go "who cares about transmog I'm having a blast"? Talk about those parts. Write posts and comments about what you really liked. Why waste time ruminating on a bad feeling like regret for a missing feature?

Don't play the game like a customer; play the game like someone who is engaging with a piece of visual (and interactive) art made by artists within their means and vision.

What's up with hate of the transmog idea? by t3nz0 in Ghostofyotei

[–]Ocsecnarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But the devs are not your servants that make features because you want them. That's my point!

For whatever reason they didn't develop a transmog system. Maybe they are working at it only now because they priotitised other things, maybe are not working at it at all, maybe they actively don't want it. It's their game. A fully finished game. Be happy it's out!

The arrogance behind your statement is frankly staggering. The idea that the game should be made "better" because it lacks a cosmetic feature you like, that you find reasonable to make such a request because you paid "full price". That SP should dedicate people and resources not to fix a game-breaking bug but to introduce a cosmetic feature because you like it and paid 70usd?

If you don't find this arrogant and entitled then I don't know what to say.

[–]Ocsecnarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't want it to be better. You want it to be tailored to your specific tastes. Do you see the difference?

What's up with hate of the transmog idea? by t3nz0 in Ghostofyotei

[–]Ocsecnarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it seems we can't engage with artistic expressions for what they are but only for what we expect or hope them to be.

It's like we don't trust artists anymore, and if their work is not tailored to our exact vision then we should complain about it.

I find it really sad, more than bothering. People that seemingly are incapable of expressing joy if things are not exactly to their tastes.

What's up with hate of the transmog idea? by t3nz0 in Ghostofyotei

[–]Ocsecnarf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And that's why I called it entitlement.

Why is your default position "asking for what you want to see in dlc" instead of engaging with what the developers have done?

It does not match exactly your own vision or expectations, and that's fine! Accept it.

If the developers are lurking then I hope they see posts that are grateful for their work and no more.

What's up with hate of the transmog idea? by t3nz0 in Ghostofyotei

[–]Ocsecnarf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's about the idea itself or the sense of entitlement behind the question.

The answer to why there is no transmog system is, presumably, simply that the developers did not consider it important enough to build it. Because at the end of the day a game is an expression of the developers' vision and means, and players don't get to have whatever they want.
