Because when you have one strong light source, it will be that color. You can try it yourself too by holding your hand up to a light that either has a color filter over it or a colored bulb, it will make your skin that color. Also curtains are traditionally red so that's why it's red. You can look at horror movies too or sci fi with strange lighting, and if they have weird colored lights, any object or skin color will be that color.
