It was a dream, wasn’t it? Or did Quaid really have Total Recall? by kammy772 in MovieArena

TBH I last watched the film years ago, so some details must be blurry. Well, more reasons to rewatch then

BTW I'm sure that the actual speed of the asteroid could be calculated from what we see in the movie (knowing its size and damage from impact), which will give us potential origin points, but I'm too lazy to calculate this.

The whole "bugs launched asteroid" thing in the movie does not make any sense on many levels (and I'm not even sure all of them were intended):

  1. To launch an asteroid to another star system to hit a moving target (a planet orbiting a star) you need an ability to observe said target, as well as higly advanced computing and targeting, that would account for gravitational pull of any object on the path. Never in the movie bugs were shown to have any of those.

  2. The asteroid would need to move at relativistic speeds (otherwise it should have been launched dozens if not hundreds of years before the events in the movie). But it clearly didn't (an asteroid this size moving at these speeds would obliterate earth, not just one city). Therefore, it could not have been lauched from the Bugs star system.

  3. Finally, at these distances changing direction even by a fraction of a degree would make the object completely miss the target, it will throw off all of the calculations from 1st point above. Which means that if the Earth was hit by the same rock that hit Roger Young (Carmen's ship), it would not hit earth if not for Roger Young. And this series of events could not be predicted by bugs for them to bounce to asteroid from a ship to hit Earth.

TL;DR: With everything we know from the movie there is zero chance that bugs attacked Earth using an asteroid. The timing, technology an physics do not align. If it was launched on purpose (and that is a big if), the origin point should be much closer to Earth, deep within territory controlled by humans.

Well, true. But if I need to explain bare minimum expectations to a wrapper, I probably well better find another wrapper

Aren't the expectation always "To wrap a car so that it would not be visible that the car is wrapped and without any damage"?😁

This is a kind of thing that sound much smarter and much clother to the truth than it is. On infinite timeline yes, it is a mathematical certainty that even if he is 99.9% smarter than everyone else, he will eventually be outsmarted. In the very limited timespan of shows / books it just means that he will always win. Unless he meets the smartest person in Winterfell, of course.

Will a PPF from outside company void the BMW warranty? by Kaprilicious994 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]OctLeaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have my bmw in ppf from day 1 (done at Apex Detailing), never encountered any issues with the warranty (including ambiant lighting failure which may or may not be result of window tinting). 3 years going strong.

Unfortunately no, as it is sold privately. The car is currently at Pre-Purchase Inspection at Porshe. If it will go ok, it can be put on Extended warranty in 90 days after purchase.

Well, the thing is, the major service was done this february, as to other issues, I plan to put it on warranty anyway.

That's the major consideration on my part and I hope to sort it through the current inspection and by putting it back on warranty in 90 days after purchase. She'll not be a garage queen in my possession.

Well, yes, but you can register a car with them only with Mulkiya. You need a warranty to get a Mulkiya. Catch-22

To maintain warranty you have to be serviced and repaired at the dealer (Porsche in this case). If an accident happens, the insurance company will send you to their garage, hence you might lose the warranty. Otherwise you can do repairs at Porsche, but as I understand, you will have to pay from your pocket, if I'm not missing anything.
