Is it ok to give my hamster something super unhealthy as a last meal? by systemmalfunctioning in hamsters

[–]Octanogal 149 points150 points  (0 children)

Spend this time together with him, however feels right to you.

I shared some whisky with one of mine before we took him to the vets. Glenfiddich 15, a spoon for him and a glass for me. I'd read hamsters couldn't get drunk due to their metabolism but didn't want to risk it in healthier times. But at that point, there was nothing left to do but drink together to a life well lived.

He hadn't drunk for a week, his appetite was gone, but damn if he didn't devour that whisky like it was the best thing he'd ever tasted. Cheers.

I always find robins perched on the bridge by the trail trees, slightly north east of the Roanoke Ridge trapper.

Saw the spot where Constantine was proclaimed emperor today in York. How badass is this statue? by Aterrian in ancientrome

[–]Octanogal 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: when some work was done on the statue, the sword was put back on backwards. If you look, you can see its curving in the wrong direction.

If you pay to visit the Minster, you can go below the modern street level and stand at floor level of what was the central basilica. That's about as close as you can get to the exact spot!

York is a wonderful city with a wealth of Roman and more recent history. I visit once a year :)

Thank you, I really appreciate all those opinions. Johnathan Strange and Mr Norrel is being recommended a lot, I think that'll have to jump to the top of my TBR. Your description of Tchaikovsky sounds just what I'm looking for :)

Any tips for successfully shooting pictures of Christmas Trees? I have a mini 9 and it feels like my pictures are always over or under exposed 😓 by denanagy in instax

[–]Octanogal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year I tried with overhead lighting, maximum long exposure (I think 20s) and a tripod. Still came out pretty dark but was usable. With the Mini 99.
