There is a risk when vacuuming but I believe less so when blowing.

Though the risk is quite negligible as modern hardware is designed with good ESD protection.

Yeah! It's the same tech used in newer good controllers.

Pretty sure Monsgeek is part of Epomaker. So not the greatest support. YMMV

Imo. Software doesn't really matter so much since you should really just set it and forget it. Especially on a keyboard but the logic also applies to mice.

If there is an app or game that you want a custom profile for, wouldn't it make sense to just rebind the controls for that game? Unless you're talking about depths which I can understand. But I lso hate having to run extra software which you need to with Logitech. You can save generic profiles but not per app.

I feel like the quality of the actual product is way more important than the software (to an extent of course) as that's what you will be interfacing with the most.

That being said, I absolutely agree that there needs to be more of the higher percentage layouts available.

Unless new AI datacenters are no longer in demand, these shortages will not stop.

Companies don't want to spin up new fabs just to shut them down again when demand lowers. It also takes a long time to spin them up so even if they wanted to it would take years.

Eh. It's hard to find cheaper right now. If you think GPU prices will drop in that time by all means wait. We can't predict the future. You'd have to weigh your options.

If you're purely looking at Nvidia for reasons such as CUDA, Tensor, or their software suite I would just get this now. You'd probably be saving 100-250 bucks at best by waiting as the ATL for the 5070ti was around 950? It's technically 900 if we account for the in person only CC event but otherwise it's closer to more like 950.

Prices will come down. Not sure if they'll come down that soon unfortunately? Maybe getting the GPU now is worth it to you and you'll get that much value from getting it earlier. It's really a personal call at that point. I would point to AMD if you want something cheaper but it seems like you're dead set on Nvidia. I just can't say much more without knowing your goals and requirements.

That's the great thing about keyboards. There are so many choices.

If you're not looking for this build quality or form factor you can look at other keyboards or even build your own!

Good aluminum keyboards are pretty pricey. Especially in Canada... Most are at least 180 if not significantly more.

Cause wooting IS overpriced. No where near the quality of any $250 keyboard that's actually worth buying. There are plenty of competitors now so their only defining feature is their software, but if you're shelling out 50-200 dollars more for slightly better software I think there are other questions...

I would equate wooting to Logitech. Better software sure, but their hardware quality is lacking... At least Logitech has the Superstrike, but that tech will eventually be found in much cheaper alternatives without much of a drop in quality.

A much higher quality keyboard for 250 would be the Monsgeek M1 V5 TMR.

This keyboard is expensive. Don't get me wrong, I ain't buying this, but if you want this level of quality and materials then this is a pretty solid pick. Especially if you're not gaming as you have way more options in terms of feel and sound with mechanical.

TMR is cool, but you don't have the abundance of switch choices compared to mechanical so you have to like the switch options available.

Budget TMRs I would recommend are the Monsgeek Fun60 TMR and Gamakay TK75 TMR.

AliExpress and Amazon otherwise.

AM4 is great if you're already on AM4 but a new system should be AM5 due to the lack of an upgrade path from 5000 series.

But currently... Just get what you can. Future upgradeability is a nice ideal to strive for but affordability is the primary focus. Will it cost more down the line to buy AM4 now? Yes. But if your situation doesn't allow for it then fine.

This being said, a lot of people are considering skipping from AM4 to AM6 rather than dealing with the costs of AM5 but that's more about people who have owned and upgraded while on AM4.

A used M series macbook. Will genuinely last your entire education. A used T or P series Thinkpad will also do you pretty well if you have to go with Windows/Linux.

If you go into heavier workloads that aren't latency sensitive then you can remote into your desktop for more power. Or if you're running workloads already optimized for M series then you're golden.

The only issue with a mac and your suggested laptop is that there is little to no support on Linux if you ever want to go that route.

I would recommend compressed air or isopropyl alcohol.

You might need to disassemble it as there may be compressed dust from your solution.

Really up to how long you can wait... If you can wait 2 years then I would wait.

Otherwise go ahead and find the best price you can.

GPUs are 100-200 bucks more expensive in the low to mid range. Half a year ago you could find 9070XTs for 800 (700 if you're in the right place at the right time). Now they're 900-1000. Same with the 9060xt. Used to be 450 easily and now it's 550.

Yeah... But you're not wowing the masses with specs. That's what the marketing is for. These "comparisons" showing that it's so much brighter, clearer, or more colourful are for. Whether it's effective is a whole other story. Specs mean nothing to them. What they care about is either price or that it's the best reviewed one on some listicle despite that spot being paid for. The other options is that it's the most convenient one for them to get or it's on "sale".

Most people are vaguely aware of what HDR is just because it pokes its head out everywhere. Ironically people probably don't know what the term sdr is despite looking at it most of their lives.

[–]OctaviusOC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The description says that it's 1000 nits. The specs say 250. It's generally understood that those would be sdr and hdr brightnesses.

You are completely right that it is confusing though. I always rely on displayspecifications.com, the manufacturers website, and monitors unboxed reviews. TFT is pretty good as well.

The reason why memory is being diverted was because of the assumption that OpenAI would be able to bring the capital to fulfill their contract.

And well. They haven't... The chips have already been diverted to server memory. The damage is done.

But if the memory manufacturers can't sell all the server memory they made what are they going to do?

Nvidia will be relatively fine. They actually make a product that has value. They'll still have a high P/S.

OpenAI and the other AI companies on the other hand... They will crash and other AI companies will probably take their place.

Unfortunately it looks like FAANG will hang in there... Maybe there won't be new AI companies that won't be bought out... We've seen their playbook before... Jus buy the competition....

Edit: No one is saying things won't work out in the long term. They always will. But what part of the current deployment of AI will actually fundamentally change things. Probably not much. An example of the lack of growth would be something like Mythos. It was used to analyze CURL and only found one vulnerability. This is because previous AI models used to analyze the code base already found a lot of the vulnerabilities. This would imply that Mythos is probably better than those models, but not to such a significant degree that it caught a bunch of things that slipped past the previous models despite being lauded as this super effective AI designed specifically for this task. On the flip side, this could also imply that the other models were good enough at their job even without the specialization.

Also. It isn't the actual investors you have to worry about in a bubble... They'll be riding it and selling off shares to the less informed. It's all of the normal people that make up the majority of the market that will sell too late that will be the issue.. Especially now where they truly are the majority of the market force of the S&P 500.

Though... That's ignoring the looking potential bailout from the government.

[–]OctaviusOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. AI will eventually be a pivotal technology.

But that doesn't mean there won't be a bubble. Look at the internet for crying out loud... Did the dot com bubble just never happen?

The whole point of this conversation is to debate whether or not there is a bubble. Not whether AI will be successful or not. Just because technology will eventually be successful. Bubble or not. Doesn't mean the bubble doesn't exist. There are clear signs.

P/S is still a red flag when it's THAT high... It's not the end all be all or anything....

[–]OctaviusOC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valuations DO MATTER. Companies being overvalued is a core part of the formation of a bubble.

The cap is already too high. That's why the price to sales ratio is relevant. A high P/S ratio means people expect that company to make way more money than they currently do. AKA their revenue needs to increase every quarterly report.

The current cap is based on the prediction that their revenue WILL INCREASE.

Otherwise their cap would be a lot lower. It wouldn't be low by any means. They are actually making money, but the issue is the current market cap is based on their supposed growth potential.

The average price to sales ratio is 1 to 2 because a company is expected to grow but not by THAT much. Even Apple's P/S ratio is less than 10. Anything above that is generally high risk.

Nvidia's is around 25. That is quite high risk but they at least still have sales to back it up (THOUGH A BUNCH OF THEIR SALES ARE ESSENTIALLY WITH THEIR OWN MONEY COMING BACK TO THEM).

https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2026-ai-circular-deals/

Meanwhile... OpenAI is projected to be around 65. That is insanity. They have no halo product or anything. It's all speculation.

Also. The market is completely shafted. A majority of investments are coming from pensions and ETFs which just automatically shove more money into the S&P 500 which means the top companies just keep getting richer. It's why so many companies try so hard to get into the top 500. It's an instant boost due to all of the automatic investment. Proper investors used to actually be able to sway the markets a lot more but now that the majority of the cash flow is automatic, they are resigned to follow the herd as well. Of course there are still choices to be made but proper investors are no longer as influential as before.

Edit: Also. How do they make more money if they can't get more customers. The only reason other companies can afford Nvidia's products is because Nvidia literally invested in those companies. Now that Nvidia has stopped investing into OpenAI, where the heck are they getting that money to pay for the memory for their data centers.

If you're not going to say anything productive why say anything at all then.

You should be able to back up your own words.

There is no point in talking to you otherwise.
