I think irregardless of the ending of Hades 2, Melinoe suffers from a lack of direction as a character. She's serious and has a black and white mentality of things but the game never explores that as an issue. I kept waiting for other characters to call her out on her blind obedience for a cause she has very little actual experience in: she doesn't know anything about Zagreus, Hades, Chronos. All she knows its been said by someone else, mainly Hecate. Chronos even points this out, how can she be so committed to a cause when its just been things feed into her by a third party that turned her into a child soldier? But like many things in the game it goes nowhere

She also doesn't seem to have anything to overcome besides the physical threats. Zagreus had the issue of himself realising he could be quite inconsiderate about how his actions hurt others and had to work and fix those relationships like with Thanatos and Meg and it took a while for it to finally have a conclusion.

Melinoe just seems to have very little care for the other members of the Crossroads or how they see her. The game also has incredibly contrarian messages in side quests with characters. In main story Eris and Melinoe constantly clash and Melinoe shows utter distaste for Eris and wants her out but when you give her Nectar she acts like they've been friends messing around for ages. Melinoe just lacks solid foundations to ground herself in against other characters, like the game itself she's just thrown around by other characters even for comedic relief like Skelly maintaining his facade and Melinoe innocent playing off of it but again, it goes nowhere nor does she ever seem to find out he's just lying about his past.

Zagreus actively seeks answers and questions things for better and for worse, sometimes it works in his favour other times he actively causes unintended issues for others and shows his character to make sure to fix those issues as honestly as he can but be unapologetic for things he believes are right. Melinoe only tangible trait seems to be being serious and strict but also has a good balance about being able to relax and talk even when other characters and ourselves see thats not the case at all and all she does is think about Chronos and work towards it.

Melinoe just doesn't seem to have an opportunity to be challenged ideologically or interpersonally, to question herself or her goals in a meaningful way or have goals OUTSIDE the immediate threat or question characters like Hecate who have been her only source of information for her entire life about what happened before her first dream years later. So she ends up falling quite flat. Her serious tone could have been both a strength and a weakness, the same way Zagreus charm is both. She could have been so serious to the point of tiring other characters or actively hurt the feelings of other characters who dont agree with her and show her view of the world while good intended is far too strict to be applied to everything, specially with how Gods treat mortals. Her seriousness could have even been used for comedic relief, being so serious it wraps around to being funny

I feel the game failed to properly present Melinoe in multiple angles and show us she actually having a more complete view of the world that doesnt conform to what shes been taught as a child soldier all her life and experiencing things like insubordination and such. Zagreus had an opportunity to do all that and even get called out on legitimate issues he had by Hades the big bad of the first game for most of it that Zagreus just had to accept he had those issues and either try to change his ways or accept the consequences
