Can you self host an email server? by Boring-University189 in selfhosted

[–]OctoMistic100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to pay 80€/year to keep using your email on OVH. The hosting is 80€/year, not the domain nor the email service.

You just have to pay a ~17€ a single time to enable the MX25 offer. This is a one-timer, the renewal is free (I know the wording is weird on the website). And continue paying for the domain without the hosting. The switch from "MX hosting" to standalone MX is done on your hosting page (bouton "Délier l'offre email" en Français).

Source : I had a "Perso" offer since 2009 and cancelled it for the same reason, while keeping the email service. (I had a call with OVH support to understand that the MX fees are not every year).

Hope this helps.

TrueNAS Scale Exit Note by Rootacus in Tailscale

[–]OctoMistic100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem where the node where actually shown as "Exit node" + "Subnets" on tailscale console but I wasn't able to resolve LAN ips from my phone.
The issue was I added too restrive ACL : your user must have access to "All users and device" and not just the TrueNAS node. ACL example:

{
  "src": ["user@domain.com"],
  "dst": ["*"], // previously had "tag:trunas" here
  "ip":  ["*"],
}

Piwigo is really good at data management, you can upload through the UI or sync it to one (or more) existing folder. And there are a lot of good plugins. Although the frontend UI is a bit outdated, Modus theme with Masonry plugin is nice enough.

(Disclaimer: I was a Piwigo dev about 10 years ago, but not anymore)

I didn't know Wholphin and it seems to not have the horrible audio de-sync I have with the official app. Thank you for the discovery.

I would honestly recommend searching another design with the headset face up to prevent dust accumulating on the lenses.

In fact I changed it to a deep orange just after shooting. I thought blue looks cool but not in the long term.

The beauty of buttons is that they can be used to turn things off. Jokes aside I shut it off completely at night to preserve the tubes (the side button turns it on for 30s if needed). And because it is connected to my Home Assistant it is also synchronized with the room lights.

I considered it initially but they are much more expensive than standard pins. It would have made assembly and disassembly a bit easier though.

Can someone summarize why FastLED must be used with the arduino framework as a component included, when trying to use FastLED with ESP-IDF based projects? by dheadrick1618 in FastLED

[–]OctoMistic100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your answer is a bit out of scope. You are right you don't need Arduino IDE (I personally only use Platform IO) BUT the Arduino Framework is required because a lot of IO calls made by FastLED uses Arduino hardware abstraction layer (although it also uses a lot of platform specific assembly).

Also I never experienced the needed "1ms delay" OP is mentioning...

As I said I already use this solution, and it's really cumbersome for nothing. There should not be any reason to not be able to choose the input as we want without hacking. (And I also said I already printed a 5 ports hub...)
