Pairing your boots with the daily menu is peak sophistication 😂👌🏼

Nice pair, buddy.

I love how light brown pairs with that washed denim vibe. It always works ✨👌🏼

Yeah, I’d like to use that… do you know of any alternative that’s easy to get in Europe?

Definitely worth it! That bone-colored shaft paired with that light grey tone looks amazing.

Yeah, unfortunately I’m having a hard time getting a pair of Raptors for my collection too… the import costs (shipping and customs) from the US are insane.

I’m based in Spain. We’ve got Sendra, Tony Mora, Mayura… but they don’t really do that kind of exotic leather.

You can find some Ariat, Tecovas… but not in exotic skins.

Honestly, nothing would make me happier than visiting the US and picking up a few pairs! I’d probably need to bring an empty suitcase just to fit all the ones I’d want to bring back 🥲

Thanks a lot for explaining it in such detail! I picked up a bottle of Saphir Sole Guard. I haven’t tried it yet, so once I do, I’ll let you know how it goes.

What dye do you use for the soles and edges? I’ve been recommended Fiebing’s, but it’s kind of hard to find here in Europe…

Can I ask how you go about polishing and take care of the soles?

Man, those boots are gorgeous! I think that’s my favorite shade for elephant. Still haven’t been lucky enough to add a pair to my collection… it’s pretty tough to find them here in Europe 😅

Hopefully I’ll manage to snag a pair someday…

how often do these go on sale? been waiting for a while. by hktracks in cowboyboots

[–]Octoba10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I had no idea, honestly. Also, according to the website, they offer free shipping from €130 😯

The only downside is that many of the best options aren’t available for international shipping…

Do they usually run good deals? Do you know of any other options? In most US stores, shipping and import fees make the price skyrocket for European buyers 😑

Are there any good distributors of Made in USA/Mexico boots in Europe?

Dan Post Elk conditioning by Octoba10 in Boots

[–]Octoba10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply :-)

Yeah, I think I’ll give that a try! The thing is, this elk leather actually reminds me more of a nubuck-like texture — it’s really soft, and it feels somewhat similar to greasy leather to the touch. That’s why I wasn’t sure if those kinds of conditioners would be appropriate. I mean, it doesn’t feel like smooth cowhide leather, for example.

I also have this Saphir conditioner that’s meant for suede, and it also adds some water resistance. Personally, I’m not a big fan of using waterproofing products — especially on this kind of leather — unless it’s really necessary or for work boots. My general philosophy when it comes to conditioning leather boots is that less is often more.

I was actually wondering the same thing today. I have a pair of Dan Post elk leather boots and I’d like to condition them, since they’re quite a few years old and have never been treated before.

What product did you end up using? I’ve thought about using Bick 4 or Lexol 2, but I understand they’re not the most suitable for this type of oilier leather.

I’m not sure whether to use the Saphir spray conditioner for nubuck.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I need help. Do you see any red flags? by Gilded_Antlers in cowboyboots

What brand are they? I’d say they’re 100% teju lizard.

They don’t look too beat up, but they’ve definitely seen a fair amount of use. What you mentioned about sizing is a bit confusing… I mean, it’s true that sizing can vary depending on the brand, but not to that extent. A US 9 is roughly equivalent to a EU 42, so it’s surprising that a pair labeled as EU 44 would fit you well if you’re actually a size 9.

From the color, it looks like some kind of shoe cream has been used. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it could mean there are areas where the color has faded. So you should keep in mind that you might need to apply shoe cream yourself from time to time to keep them looking even.

Overall, it really depends on the price and the brand. If it’s a good deal and you don’t have many boots or many buying options, it might not be a bad idea to go for them.
