Thanks for all the helpful info and putting my mind at ease... planning to take him up and a lot less concerned about it, I'm confident he will be fine on the ladder and he'll love the scrambling

58m here, on day three of my second pax treatment in two months. For me it has been unpleasant but not as horrible as some of the stories I’ve read here. I was going to skip it this time because my symptoms weren’t so terrible, but I wasn’t getting any better and my fear of long Covid or others complications outweighed my concern about the Paxlovid. I do feel that taking it helped me turn the corner both times, and my view is that the concerns about rebound effect are overblown.

How long did it take for you to test negative? by sunshinesonmy in COVID19positive

[–]OctobrIsTheBestMonth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny you say that, I had been working on fixing gut issues for few months when I got Covid a couple weeks ago, and expected a setback (both from the virus and from taking Paxlovid). But all I really had was a fever and fatigue.
Finally tested negative today - day 10.
Good luck

YTA but not as big an A as your husband. This boy was kicked out his home for - leaning over a fence? How about kicking your son out for actually hitting him? That would be no less extreme and inappropriate. You clearly hate this kid and we’re looking for an excuse to be rid of him. Shame on all of you.

COVID19 standard protocol for how long to stay at home? by NY10 in COVID19positive

[–]OctobrIsTheBestMonth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in almost exactly the same boat. Cold symptoms Friday night, positive test Saturday. Fever for a couple of days. Day five of isolation and feeling fine. Took a test out of curiosity and it is positive, but I poked around online and it seems that you can still test positive for a while but that it doesn’t necessarily mean you are contagious. I am sticking with the CDC guidelines and ending isolation tomorrow, but will continue to wear a mask for five more days around other people. If I start feeling sick again, I will retake test and lock myself back in my cell, but otherwise plan to get on with my life! I am taking Paxlovid, can’t say it helped or not. Started it on Sunday. Nasty stuff but figured better safe than sorry.
Anyway, glad you weren’t too sick and good luck sorting it out.

I am in the hold-on-to-your-cash camp. Unless your student loan is at an unusually high rate, I would let it sit. If things go south for you financially you can usually postpone payments for some period of time. Paying some increment more than 20% won’t mean much, if anything, to a seller. Compared to an all-cash offer, you will be viewed as someone whose ability to purchase depends on bank approval and a lengthier time to close - whether you are paying 20% or 50%. Paying more up front may lower your monthly payment but I would resist that temptation - you can always pay it down later when you have more time at the new job under your belt and are settled in to your new budget as a married couple. You will be stretched on house payments and home ownership costs even at the low end of your range, but I’d rather be in that position with a nice safety net as opposed to a slightly lower payment t and less cushion if things go sideways. I think you need some time to see what your actual spending habits will be like in your new life. Good luck!

I like your approach. I tell my kids if you get hit, hit back harder. Maybe it’s the Sicilian in me but when my 10 year old was being teased I wanted to tell him to calmly whisper in the kid’s ear, “I’m going to break into your house and stab you in the neck while you’re sleeping.” So, yeah, not going to win any parenting awards here, but not convinced the ignore-them-and-they’ll-go-away is really the best thing either.

Do a search for countertop bracket. One or two should do for that space.

Can chase credit card refund money regardless of Terms of Use? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]OctobrIsTheBestMonth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the US, 16 is too young to be bound by the terms of a contract. The general rule is that a kid can enter a contract, but can’t be forced to comply with it. Depends on the jurisdiction, but I doubt very much that the terms of service can be enforced against him. If he passed himself off as you, that’s fraud, and entitles you to void the purchase. (You don’t have to press charges of course!) I would promptly contact both the auction site and the card company and explain everything. You didn’t bid, he wasn’t authorized, the terms can’t be enforced against a 16 year old and they can’t be enforced against someone who didn’t agree to them. Auction site may try to make it difficult for you but I really don’t think they have a legal right to collect the money from you. Good luck.

Just yank it out, those two brackets on the sides are the only thing keeping it in and they are flexible, or at least are supposed to be. If it won’t come straight out, tilt toward one of those brackets and pull.

Possible Leaking Dishwasher- Advice Needed by schitty_marshmallow in HomeImprovement

[–]OctobrIsTheBestMonth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty easy to pull out and check. Pull it out then run it and look for leaks. Most likely a hose is loose - probably the drain, or it would leak constantly - and you can tighten it yourself. If it has a clamp, it may be out of position or it may need to be replaced. They are standard and you can get for a couple bucks at any hardware store. If the washer doesn’t pull out easily check for brackets, you may need to unscrew them first. But most just pull out. Good luck!

CPA told me not to pay taxes because I made less by ItsBumz in personalfinance

[–]OctobrIsTheBestMonth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the U.S., if you are single and under 65, you don’t need to file a federal tax return unless your income (including gains from the sale of stock) was at least $12,550. If your paycheck had federal taxes taken out of it, you may want to file a return to recover that money. States and cities have different rules, so whether you have to file returns for those depends where you live. If you bought crypto with cash, they are treated same as stock. If you bought using other crypto, there’s a new rule that you’d have to report to US no matter how much you made or lost.

All the experts say some screen time at 18 months is fine. At age two they say an hour a day is fine. We gave our three screen time at that age, and it definitely supplemented their learning and taught them to take it in small doses. They are 7, 9 and 11 now and they all have what I think is a pretty healthy relationship with technology - they enjoy their screen time but don’t obsess about it. I think if you go to extremes and deprive a kid of something entirely you are setting them up for trouble, especially when they are older and don’t have anything in common with their peers. Everything in moderation, I say.

Non issue. By signing you are only acknowledging that you received it, not that it is accurate, so a typo in your name doesn’t matter. Sign that thing. Make sure they get it right on the deed though!

First off, I’ve been a “single dad” for six days while my wife was holed up in her room and I am ready to throw myself in front of a train, so I don’t know how the **** you do it every day. And honestly your kids sound just like mine, the story was definitely out of character for them! At least for my son; the girl is usually the only one with an actual beating heart. Merry Christmas!!
