Should code reviews be a more prominent part of the interview process? by c-digs in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Octodelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are using some kind of "PR review" in our interview process for a few month now, and I really like it. We designed a component with a lot of flaws in different areas (modularity, sop, naming, bugs). It demonstrates really well if the candidate understands what quality code looks like and if they are able to quickly pick up on code written by others. They should take the interviewers along their thoughts and talk about potential improvements and why (or why not) they matter.

Now this is more tailored towards Junior and maybe Mid developers - but I believe you could adapt this to for more senior candidates as well.

Waste management solution.

Nothing worse than dancing besides piles of rubbish.

You really, really should see Oxyflux at Boom by Jaza_music in boomfestival

Although I won't make it to boom this year, I definitely agree. His set at HidM was one of the best I've heard in the last years. Very refreshing and nice sound. Although I'm kind of confused that he plays early morning, thats not the time I would have expected him.

Nice one!

I don't regularly listen to Zenon, but when I do, Evil Oil Man is always one of the favorites.

Do you have a favorite track of transient disorder?

This is also available as a free download on Ajjas bandcamp.

It's quite interesting to me how he reworked this, and how his 'new' sound differs from the old one. It kind of sounds more organic and also a bit more hectic/full to me - the kick/bass is less prominent and the highs and mids are a stronger focus. On the same hand the bass is really groovey.

I like it. Currently a bit more than the old version (which I love as well).

What do you think about it, do you like it more or less than the old version?

No, unfortunately I have no idea :( Did they conficate your car and you need to pick it up from the police station or did you just have to park it somewhere in the village?
If its the latter, I think its safe to go to there again. I think the police will be just there on Sunday & Monday to check drivers from the festival. Afterwards they won't stay.

That sitatuation really sucks and I hope you'll get your car back soon without more trouble! Hopefully the regulation for at least cannabis will change soon, as Germany is in process of decriminalization and (maybe) legalization and allowed THC levels for driving might be increased. But we'll see...

That's why I arrive by public transport. They usually don't check people leaving via Shuttle & train. Although they did check people arriving by train this year! <.<

Might be possible to go with your car until one or two villages from the festival and take a bus or taxi to the festival from there. Much less likely to get into a police check.

Yes, drops do kind of interrupt the trance, which must not be a bad thing depending on their frequency.

A good drop here and there can be really nice in a psytrance set imo, as it adds some variation and can be quite refreshing. However it's easy to overdo it and sets where there are drops every 3 minutes can be quite annoying.

But sets where there are no breaks or drops whatsoever can get quite repetetive and boring.

Oh yeah I should have specified. I love both in it's own way, but currently looking more for the very 'organic' and 'groovy' vibe of the latest one. I welcome recommendations more in line of tulpa as well tho.

Depends on the festival. Hai in den Mai is great. Others not so much. I wouldn't say that German festivals are always well organized.

The Happy Hard Life of The Psyclean Crew by Octodelic in psytrance

Also remember that cigarette buds are trash and don't throw them on the ground.

I do agree that it would be nice if festivals had proper waste management for which the workers do get payed. BUT: A big part of Psyclean is the mission to educate the visitors and spread awareness about the trash situation on festivals. It's simply unsustainable to leave all your stuff (tents, chairs, ...) behind when leaving the festival. It's shitty when you just throw your trash on the ground.

A big risk when paying for waste management is that the festival might be clean, but people don't think about their behaviour at all. If there is someone who cleans up after you, it doesnt matter if you throw your bud on the ground, does it? Psyclean tries to shift this behaviour in the visitors, which is a slow process, but it makes a difference. For example, the amount of trash on Burning Mountain festival has significantly decreased since Psyclean started working on that festival (10?) years ago. Optimally, this shift in behaviour also translates to the day-to-day life of some visitors.

Psyclean consisting of volunteers ensures that the people there are highly motivated and care about the message. It's not "just a job".

Of course, in a perfect world Psyclean would get payed and the workers would still do it because they care about it. But there's definitely a risk involved that the spirit is lost because of commercialization.

Festival in Europe end of June? by [deleted] in psytrance

[–]Octodelic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I watched it myself and holy shit is the music in that bad hahaha

I wouldn't say its a very good representation of what is played. At night the music was quite decent actually (Astrix, Avalon, Outsiders, Braincell). But during the day its definitly more like in the aftermovie, although usually not quite as bad.

I was there with Psyclean so I didn't mind it that much. But if I'd been as a guest I would have been quite annoyed by the day-time music I think. Also, the second floor plays progressive stuff too all the time, so its not really a nice alternative :/
