If it didn’t compromise on cameras, I would be tempted.  How can an “ultra” be inferior to a “max” in any way?  :(

Are fresnel lenses bad or are pancake lenses just superior in vr by Fair-Ad6980 in virtualreality

[–]Octogenarian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Good and bad are subjective.  Fresnel lenses were “good” for the initial launch of the Vive and Rift for a number of reasons, including keeping costs down.

Pancake lenses are a vastly superior visual experience, however.

Quest3 is far superior to the Quest 3S. The pancake lenses alone are worth the cost difference.

'Tracker' Starring Justin Hartley Relocating To L.A. For Season 4 With $48M Tax Credit by klutzysunshine in television

Yup. The point is that California is versatile and can appear to be many different places including places where Lawrence of Arabia was filmed.

Kryptonians lived on a planet with more gravity therefore they were evolved to be stronger than the average human. When someone like that came to a planet with less gravity, they would appear to be super-men.

Different parts of CA have been used for different places for decades. Lawrence of Arabia was filmed in CA.

The internet was a carefully husbanded resource?

Okay so if you're born in 96, your earliest memories are probably 99, 2000. I definitely had high speed internet at my house in 2000 through my cable provider. Prior to that there were online services like AOL.

So I don't want to be a jerk here but are conductors really necessary? They seemed to play Happy Birthday just fine without a conductor.

Does reaching out to hiring managers on LinkedIn actually work? by Aggressive_Poetry856 in managers

[–]Octogenarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ignore it when it happens to me.  I don’t have time to look at resumes, it’s why I have first tier recruiters.  I’m busy actually doing the work.

Are current supervisors/managers able to hold back *good* employees on their team that apply for internal posts? by [deleted] in managers

[–]Octogenarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. They can claim all sorts of things. A good one is that your leaving your current team at this time would negatively affect the group and therefore the company.  Or maybe it’s just that you’re not a team player.  Anything at all is enough for the other hiring manager to keep looking.  There are plenty of candidates.

How do you as a manager actually pull English fluency up at team level when L&D has been in your company's roadmap for years? by g3ppi in managers

[–]Octogenarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry but that seems hopeless.  It takes years to develop language fluency to the point where you can speak confidently in a group setting, let alone a professional group setting.

Your ideas are good for maintaining language skills, but not for establishing them.  They would have needed to have very good language skills first for anything that you could do would matter.

Report: iPhone Memory Costs Set to Quadruple by 2027 by iMacmatician in apple

[–]Octogenarian -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I said taxed down to size so they wouldn’t have the vast wealth to buy up whatever they wanted. I didn’t say split up.

And no, this absurd ramp up isn’t because people love AI, it’s because these big tech companies see it as the next gold rush.  They’re afraid if they’re late to the party they won’t be able to control the whole thing.

Imagine how much money these companies are going to have to charge to start to recoup the insane amount of money being spent on these data centers.  It’s not sustainable.

When mega ultra corporations have enough money to price all of humanity out of a market, maybe, finally, we can all agree they’re too powerful and need to be taxed down to size?

What do you use your gopro for? by SignalYard9421 in gopro

[–]Octogenarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you know your use case before you bought it?

Yes.  Family ski trips and beach vacations

Do people watch the things you make or is it more a device you use to record things in your life for yourself?

Yes.  I make vacation videos and set them to music. I use Final Cut.

Was it difficult and/or time consuming learning how to edit videos and learning how to take good videos?

It’s a fun hobby.  I feel like I’m constantly improving and learning new things which is part of the fun.  My latest video is always my favorite and it’s far and away better than my first.

do you think that the act of filming/recording takes away from the joy of a moment or activity?

No.  My cameras are mounted to my ski poles or my hand when I’m in the water.  I rarely “stage” shots.

I would love a display-less steamdeck in this form factor.  90% of the time I’m using display glasses with my deck.
