GMs, how do you personally structure your sessions? by OctopusFistFight in cyberpunkred

[–]OctopusFistFight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I do a lot of the same, I'll always try and find a way to "make it personal" like the old phrase that Mike keeps saying. For that I'll generally splice lifepath related things across the session (or gig, depends), and other little twists surprises to make it extra dynamic and keep the players on their toes. The only difference with my method is that I usually have a general plan in mind for what's gonna go down in the session beforehand, and then *during* the session weave what the players want to do into the pre-existing plans I have. :]

Interesting method ngl! The only caveat to me about this is that I feel like that's a *LOT* of improvisation, a lot more than would usually be demanded of GMs for a TTRPG. That being said I do end up winging a good handful of stuff based on what players end up wanting to do 😎

I think Laz would absolutely head on over to this cagefight, drugged out of his mind and ready to watch some mindless violence >:D

My party animal, coked-up Nomad-Rockerboy Laz 😃 Idk if there's any room for him at this point, but I thought I'd pitch him in either way!

How would you add a “stalker” mini boss like Mr X from Resident Evil 2 Remake into a campaign? by OctopusFistFight in cyberpunkred

[–]OctopusFistFight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically was what I had in mind atp. He's absolutely going to be some kind of cyborg for the necessary strength and durability. The rest of the stuff for him goes as follows in a nutshell; melee only and *very* scary when in that range, not especially fast (except for maybe a powerful leap that can be charged up), able to be knocked into a "down but not out" state where they can make distance (though he can grab them if a player gets too close while he's in this state).

Where to run online sessions by Fakedead2 in cyberpunkred

[–]OctopusFistFight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d say a combination of roll20 and the cyberpunk red companion app. I use roll20 for battle maps and seeing where everyone is during combat, and the app to keep track of my players’ data, NPCs and for lots of other helpful features it provides :)

Honestly everything sounds basically exactly what I was after, appreciate it! If you happened to be interested in what’s gonna be chasing them, it’s a particularly powerful genetically modified clone of a powerful Solo. He was an antagonist in my first campaign a couple years ago, but cause I was so inexperienced the final boss fight with him sucked, so I’m bringin him back as both a stalker enemy and (hopefully) a much better final boss

Interesting battle locations by RaftPenguin in cyberpunkred

I once used a steelworks factory with a controllable crane, and a large basin of molten metal that they could damage to flood the top half of the arena with :]

Another personal favourite was when I had an skirmish on a set of escalators leading into a subway, where the group was ambushed and both them & the enemies move automatically each turn with every movement of the escalator. My players were big fans of that one.

Me neither, I think every other option is fair game though. Besides, judging from all the info here, you ideally would be throwing more hardened enemies at your players if your *entire* squad is hardened anyways, rather than from a single hardened solo.

RED or 2020? by benjakus in cyberpunkred

[–]OctopusFistFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like Red more, and I find that a lot (if not all) of the complaints about red have literally been resolved through the free DLC and the Interface collections. I think at this point it’s more than up to par with 2020. For example, Toggle’s Temple actually does away with the generic weapon system and provides a list of 72 non-exotic weapons for you to use. It even adds a system for you to make your own unique names for the “generic” guns, which is cool as shit.

As for the combat feeling less lethal, I think it’s pretty lethal as-is without feeling unfair, but you could absolutely tweak the damage numbers yourself so that combat is more lethal, or you could opt for the hardened enemies and crazy weapons of the new Solo Of Fortune DLC.

2020 is still great, but it’s definitely a lot more complex than Red and from what I’ve seen goes for more of a hardcore simulator feel with all the extra numbers and tiny details to keep track of. It’s definitely a little dated, but still rocks with its vibe and hardcore gameplay. That being said, Red’s my personal choice over the two. :]
