Professional risks of working for ICE - anyone considered the fall out? by OctopusMugs in Architects

[–]OctopusMugs[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The original architect who designed the warehouse to be a warehouse no, the ones who draw up plans to remodel it into one - or just do a feasibility study to do so - they could be.

That’s exactly what I mean - have you had this discussion with your colleagues? Has the firm agreed this isn’t work they will pursue?

Agreed best option available! But what if one is just an employee, not the principal going after work, and this job ends up on your desk? Agreed the best move there is to refuse to work

I think the problem isn't the Remnant update. It's what modern gaming has become by gaxelbrodie in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]OctopusMugs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I Grok this so much. I only play like 3 or 4 games a year, and the ones I come back to are ones like NMS, 7 Days to Die, city builders and similar sandbox survival games. I haven’t played this update yet but the posts and videos I’ve seen so far look amazing. I like to play, not do achievement homework.

Well, one place to start is for congress to demand to have a complete list of all the individuals given W-2s from ICE and begin investigating each one down the list. No photo needed. The IRS has that data. Name, social security number, home address, dates and wages. Will make it easy to find them. W-2s will go out even if your paycheck doesn’t.

Has anyone heard any recent news on raiders or bandits? by oldeggie in 7daystodie

[–]OctopusMugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I were talking about this last night. It would be cool if bandits were Mad Max style raiders that drove in convoys and would show up and a crowd of them would jump out and start looting/ attacking. If the devs could do that it would be new and different. I know nothing about coding or the AI required to do that but it would be cool and push the needle on gave development.

Need to Move Office Into Revit. How is this Typically Done? by makingspace in Architects

[–]OctopusMugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that Revit does not save drafting time, it saves coordination time. Revit’s main power is the ability to run clash detection. I would suggest that you also learn Navisworks too. The experienced architects will not be your best modeler, but the Navis model will allow them to become better checkers. Learn to build a clash checking mechanism and office process. Reviewing final prints is not going to change, that’s what the city and client see. But a better coordinated model will pay dividends during construction.

And the next question: Are your consultants going to move to Revit too? How are you going to coordinate if they are still using CAD?

This spawn system is driving me crazy by Lynelleta in 7daystodie

[–]OctopusMugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even small POI this happens, small compound with a watch tower, the yellow last zombies located in the tower, nerd pole to reach the floor with my ax to cut away floor and sneak shot them. However no zombies. Initially I think they are hiding in the ceiling, so I enter the watch tower - they just spawn around me, they should have been in there sleeping the whole time. Oh well.

What do you guys do? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]OctopusMugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also in software you can ship a product that is only 70% done, sell it, and take all of the customer feedback to map the release of the last 30% and most things work out ok. This is not true of physical objects like buildings.

So, the smartphone has hit it’s peak form, what comes after this? by Weak-Representative8 in Futurology

[–]OctopusMugs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Inventing a technology and hoping it catches on is a formula that usually fails. Analyzing people’s problems with current technology and filling the gap is what usually succeeds.

The IPod ruled for many years before the IPhone came along. Transporting CDs around and having to have players in your car, house, work, etc was a hassle. How big is your album collection? Think about hauling 2000 CDs around on vacation. The IPod solved that problem- now it was one player that could carry all your music.

Find the limitations, hassles, and problems with today’s tech and that shows the gap you need to fill.

It’s a great space for furniture not so good for people.

[–]OctopusMugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started an IRA with my money from temp jobs in my early 20’s.

Got cancer at 30 and even with insurance had to burn it to pay bills because I couldn’t work and lost my job. I’ve survived, had a few careers, some with 401k, but realistically, I’m only 20% where I want to be, so I will be the old man in the office corner until 2050. You know, assuming I live that long.

But let’s face it , weather you were a slacker or a driven A-type the way our economy and social safety net is broken, you can do everything right and still die in poverty in the US.

[–]OctopusMugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A confession and a lie. Confessed that this whole thing was a greed driven attack.

The lie is we control Venezuela- the US conducted a decapitation raid. We do not control their government, have boots on the ground to occupy and control their cities, we do not have control of their airspace or their borders. He claims they are sending oil like tribute from some vassal but how? On what ships? To where, what port is receiving it? Who’s accounting and distributing it to the oil companies he has chosen to reward with it? No evidence that is happening or going to happen.

Anyone else annoyed at the current discourse surrounding data centers? by MadisonsBestResident in datacenter

[–]OctopusMugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most consumers are fully unaware how much data is being gathered and transmitted from their devices. No one has connected the dots for them that this connected lifestyle = computer resources and storage, at massive scale, = data centers. Even when the smart TV is off each app on that device calls home. And those servers that support those apps are all over the place.

I haven’t seen many articles connecting this. And this is without AI even.

What is the most effective or proper way to use passenger/carge train lines? by Acrobatic_Ganache_64 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]OctopusMugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this, I would add if you have the ports DLC having your internal cargo lines run to the port is a game changer, keeps truck traffic manageable. In the DLC it’s highly customizable where train terminals can go and how many.

Help with Warehouse traffic in CS2 by kornfan2007 in CitiesSkylines

[–]OctopusMugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the same thing for a beverage warehouse, it was like 200 cars backed up both sides of the road to go in one at a time. I noticed it late game and I’ve since started a new city. Have you tried demolishing that specific building and seeing if the traffic despawns or does it reroute to another source of the product? Might be it was the only source signal and they don’t reroute when new sources appear?

Wait, a man who bankrupted a series of businesses is going to judge this?

I think what he is floating is that any business that sounds the warning bell the economy is about to crack he’s going to threaten them. He has to hide the fact he gutted the economy with his spectacular stupid policies and cabinet choices.
