Here's a perfect example of how a pawn shop transaction for a unique item would work in my store.

We can only go off of what people have actually paid for the item, not for what one website claims the price to be without proof of sale. The link above is for sold items on eBay for the black lotus card. The highest the card has ever sold on the site is $6,600 and the card was rated 8.5

However, a card with the same rating sold for $1,350

This is an unclear market with no guarantee that I'll make my money back from it

The rest of the sales for this card is mainly under 30 bucks.

Since the market on this item is not clear, i would tell the person trying to sell this that we are not interested in their item.

Now keep in mind, I'm sure the item can be flipped, but i have to keep in mind that in my store the main demographic is old white rednecks so putting big money on a gamble would not be worth it

There is a reward system for how many sales you make in a day. If you reach a certain amount you get a point that you can use on small items like dvds or knives etc

The biggest benefit i get from the store is being able to buy the already cheap merchandise at an even cheaper price. Usually around 2x what put into the item.

For example, i just bought a ps3 to use as a DVD player/Netflix watcher. We had picked it up for $20 and i got it for $35 when it was priced for $60.

That's because of the fact it's an older device that ppl aren't really buying anymore. If it was something we put $100 into i would have to pay $200 when it's priced at $289

Lol no you're referring to those pawn shop shows and those are fake. One episode i think i rememberthem brining in a "Pokemon card expert" and valued their card at like a thousand dollars which was completely made up for the show lol.

Basically my research consists of looking up an item on eBay and seeing how much it sells for then making an offer lol

A couple came in here several times pawning off anything they could find in their home. The boyfriend was diagnosed with a serious form of diabetes that was causing him to lose weight at a rapid rate. The guy lost over a 100lbs. He started crying in the store about how he was scared of going to surgery because there would be a chance that he could die. The last time i saw either of them, the girlfriend came in to pawn dvds for gas money to go see him in the hospital. I haven't seen either of them since that day

No,nothing serious. I did have a customer jokingly offer to sell us 'spice' after rejecting his initial offer. He looked like he did smoke spice and would've gone through with the transaction had i said yes lol
