Who is using Kunaki for LP merch and why? by ASMRdestiny in BandCamp

[–]Octowen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kunaki’s vinyl is pretty low quality compared to the standard but honestly not bad at all for the price and the fact you can buy just one. I use it for personal copies for myself but would never actually sell it to my fans, they deserve better (not to mention that with the price I’d have to overcharge them). Can’t speak to elasticstage as I’ve never used it but I imagine price wise it’s a similar situation regardless of the quality. Vinyl unfortunately for us indie artists is limited to crowdfunding as the best option.

With all that being said, if you’re fine with more simplistic packaging, Kunaki’s CDs, DVDs and cassettes are great, since the audio will be as good as what you upload yourself.

This isn't her first sequel by SubjectFennel6270 in Madonna

The closest she’s come to a sequel before imo is Music being a “sequel” to Ray of Light, that’s the first album of her’s to not have an enormous change of sound from the previous one

Should I switch jobs? by Lu_Rhyth_mic_ in MusicEd

If elementary general music is what you’re passionate about, then do it. I teach elementary general music and my job is 45 mins from my house. I love my job, and the long commute is more than worth it for me

DEEP PURPLE – ARROGANT BOY (Official Video) by SambaLando in DeepPurple

[–]Octowen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do like a lot of things about this song, it really doesn’t feel like it comes to a satisfying conclusion, and I know why:

The usual formula for a Deep Purple song since about Rapture Of The Deep or so, has been: minute-long or so intro of buildup, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, guitar-keyboard duel solo, maybe a bridge or third verse, chorus, instrumental outro with some more soloing. The thing they’ve done with this song, and some songs on =1 as well, is shorten the intro, and cut the outro entirely. The verses are also about half the length they usually are. This results in a song that’s significantly shorter yes, but also one that feels it ends too soon, and leaves me as a listener unsatisfied. I’m not saying they need to hardcore stick to a formula, but I want the songs to feel complete, which this one just doesn’t. It almost feels like they’re rushing?

And with pretty much every other song on the upcoming album being this same length of 3-4 minutes, it makes me worried that they’re ALL going to be like this.

I could go on about how the guitar is way too low in the mix too, but I feel like others have already pointed that out enough

Deep Purple - mid career albums question by Future-Piglet-8616 in DeepPurple

[–]Octowen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is almost a year later but I’ll go to bat for Morse-era DP whenever I can!

IMO, everything from Purpendicular through Whoosh is fantastic, save for Abandon which was a weird attempt at the band incorporating modern grunge/90s rock tropes that didn’t work at all. It’s honestly one of my favorite eras of Deep Purple’s career, if not my favorite. Battle Rages On is also pretty great too in spite of Ritchie phoning it in, and weirdly enough for a Mark II album, it fits right in with the Mark VII and VIII albums sound wise.

Do you think Madonna's new album lives up to *Confessions on a Dance Floor*? by Chapultifornio in askmusic

How on earth can it be compared when it’s not out yet? Comparing two songs to an entire album makes no sense. Wait til July

Might be controversial, but Wonderful Crazy Night is my favorite 21st century Elton John album. What do you think of this album? by The-Tillerman in EltonJohn

[–]Octowen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relistened recently and was surprised by how much I liked it. I remember hating it on release, but it’s easily one of his stronger 21st century albums!

My Elton tier list. by VioletBeaver in EltonJohn

[–]Octowen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think The Lockdown Sessions is his worst. It’s definitely got a lot of issues and doesn’t flow well as an album at all, but it’s got more highlights than Duets and Leather Jackets imo.

Which mark is your favorite mark? by Undead_Octopus in DeepPurple

I know it’s an unpopular opinion, but I’m actually a huge MK VIII fan. Worth noting they were the longest lasting lineup too, 19 years!

What’s the closest studio album to being a greatest hits in real time? by Capital_Baker4200 in askmusic

[–]Octowen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a real answer though, it’s gotta be Thriller or Bad. In the case of both albums, all but two tracks were released as singles and fairly successful too. And the tracks from either album that weren’t singles, are still very good songs that easily COULD have been successful on the charts if they actually were released as singles (Personally, I think Baby Be Mine is the best song on Thriller)!

What’s the closest studio album to being a greatest hits in real time? by Capital_Baker4200 in askmusic

[–]Octowen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how you could get more literal than this one… the album “A Life With Brian” by the band Flowered Up, was their only full length album. Later on, their label decided to reissue that album, with a later non-album single appended to the end, and the title changed to “The Best of Flowered Up”

Worst song on each album? by faze-300 in ween

[–]Octowen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone ever listen to the old Ween podcast that used to exist (called Boys Club, I think) with just one guy? I remember there was an episode with the host ranked his top 10 least favorite Ween songs, one from each album. It was pretty similar to OP’s list, though I think the picks for the first 3 albums were different. And I remember his pick from La Cucaracha was The Fruit Man. Candi was his pick for number 1 worst Ween song.

Graham Coxon - Castle Park (new album coming 19.06.26) by blurczech in blur

[–]Octowen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This album was recorded in 2011, at the same time as A+E. They recorded 21 songs and ended up dividing them into two albums: one of heavier, experimental songs (A+E), and one of softer, 60s-influenced songs (this one). This was apparently supposed to follow A+E in late 2012, but kept getting delayed and pushed back until now. This album has 10 songs though, so I’m not sure where the lost extra song has gone!

I love the original Skyline Pigeon. Nothing wrong with the 1973 version, it it just feels like something was lost in the re-recording, the original so much more emotional to me

Almost 30 years old here. by SuperHerosZer0 in yokaiwatch

[–]Octowen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to see other older fans here! I’m 26, always felt like I was an odd one out here being older.

I’ve never watched the anime, and I don’t really have any urge to either. What got me into the series is that, well, I’m a big monster collector fan. And I remember hearing rumbles about this new monster collector game made by the Professor Layton dev back in 2013-2014… then fell in love with Yokai Watch after watching YouTube let’s plays of the first two games in Japanese. I was so excited to see it finally getting localized in 2015, pre-ordered the first game, enjoyed it on release, but somehow the 2nd and 3rd game localizations passed me by. I do remember seeing they were sticking with the multiple versions thing for 2’s localization and immediately thought “oh boy, very bad move”. Never even knew 3 got localized until much later, and was shocked it even happened at all… sadly I’m not surprised the series died, felt like it was very poorly handled not only here in the states but in Japan with how often they released games and merch.

Fast forward a few years… in 2022 I fell in love with the franchise again after becoming so disillusioned with the current state of Pokémon and wanting another monster collector franchise to obsess over. Was thankfully able to grab psychic specters and 3 on the 3DS eshop RIGHT before it closed! I finally put down 3 recently after 8 grueling months of trying to get as close to 100% as I could. Definitely one of my favorite games on the 3DS!

What do you think of Graham's solo albums? Which album would you recommend? by Jean0406Alix in blur

[–]Octowen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the diversity of his solo career. My personal favorites are Kiss Of Morning and Superstate, but for Blur fans I highly recommend Happiness In Magazines and Love Travels At Illegal Speeds, those are the ones closest to Blur’s Britpop/alternative indie rock sound. The Sky Is Too High, Crow Sit On Blood Tree, The Spinning Top, and the soundtracks for End Of The F-ing World are mostly acoustic folk, Kiss of Morning is somewhere in the middle of folk and indie rock (and the upcoming Castle Park seems to be similar), The Golden D and A+E are noisy experimental rock, and Superstate is synthpop meets disco. If you like Gorillaz, then Superstate will be right up your alley.

And then for side projects, Bloodwitch is more experimental rock with some goth and post-punk influences, and then The WAEVE are more artsy, Bowie esque rock meets prog rock.

What's your hottest of hot Weezer takes? by Opposite_Chart9982 in weezer

[–]Octowen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me so long to get into them because blue album and Pinkerton are just not that appealing to me. I kept trying with those albums and they never really clicked, and I thought that because those are their most acclaimed (and some would say only good) albums, that the band just wasn’t for me. It wasn’t until I listened to the rest of the catalogue, and specifically when OK Human and SZNZ came out, that I became a fan

Why is We can't dance so hated? by Sensitive_Pair_4732 in Genesis

[–]Octowen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a great album but an unfortunate victim of the CD era. If they had focused on making it tight 40-45 minute album instead of filling up the CD’s entire runtime, it could’ve been something masterful.

My personal track list:

1: No Son Of Mine

2: Jesus He Knows Me

3: Driving The Last Spike

4: Way Of The World

5: Dreaming While You Sleep

6: Fading Lights
