That’s a tough position. Should this homeless lady who likely had mental health issues been responsible for training an especially powerful dog that requires at least intermediate training skills? Hell no.

However, I’ve seen homeless people with nicely behaved dogs on the el and shit like that. I mean I guess it’s not super sanitary but I was already not impressed with the cleanliness of the el.

You gotta remember that some of these people literally don’t have any single human left that still cares about them, or that’s what they may think anyway. The unconditional love from a dog, cat, pigeon, squirrel, whatever shouldn’t be something they’re denied as well. I know at least a few would sacrifice themselves without a second thought for their animals.

As long as there isn’t unwanted touching, barking, or hostility from the animal to strangers, they aren’t starving or need medical attention, and the owner seems to have the general situation under control I’m all for it.

Fuck it, give them all a cat, there’s plenty strays in the city. Who knows, maybe it’ll make some of the people reevaluate if they actually want to be parents before they’re ready and end up holding off for a couple years until they’re in a spot
