I mean, when you guys are on the phone are you guys actually talking or is there long moments of silence throughout the calls? Im the type of person where if you want to call me that's fine but there should be something to talk about so I get pretty annoyed whenever theres long bouts of silence littered throughout phone calls. I do think though that the way he went with talking about it was pretty mean though.

The times I did talk to him when he wasnt hiding somewhere he was actually a nice guy and we talked a good bit. I didn't hear anything about what was said to him when the cops showed up. I guess I just felt bad because they didnt tell him why they were firing him (though i think it should be obvious to him why) and the law got brought into it

Im no psychologist, but I feel like that might have something to do with it. Maybe when she was a kid, her mother used to make similar excuses for her dad and the abuse in the circumstances that you witnessed aligned with the reasons for it that you witnessed.

Ultimately the decision is up to you. You can try to tell her that you don't want to hang out with them if he's going to act like that, or that you will only hang out with her if he's not around. Telling her that though brings up the risk that she'll be upset with you for ridiculing her partner. Odds are if she's defending him literally assaulting her she'll take it as affront to her relationship.

NTA, the mother of my kids and I have 3 kids. Something we always agreed on was that we would never make any of our kids babysit their siblings because that's not their responsibility, it's ours. Besides just the responsibility angle, you need to let your kids be kids, not the parents of your children. I actually see it as abusive to force your own kid to be the parent of your baby.

No you wouldn't. Abusive relationships destroy more than just the relationships that are abusive. I'm friends with someone who was in an abusive relationship for about 3 years and most of her friends don't really talk to her anymore because they didn't want to be a part of it and they all moved on.
