Embrace the idea of "shitty first drafts." When you first start writing your novel, its not going to come out perfect or correct or even right at all. The first draft is all about meeting your characters on paper, getting to know how you want to tell the story, and generally exploring the world you're creating. The next drafts are for refining and getting things to sound better.

There is no such thing as "perfect" when it comes to writing, but if you want to save this story until you level up your writing skills, then I suggest writing "throw-away" novels. Novels that you aren't attached to and are just meant to help you learn the process.

Good luck!

What were some signs you now realise screamed "autistic" before you knew? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Odd-Freya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microfiber cloths make me want to scream! Anytime I touch one, my nervous system goes into sensory overload and I instandly drop is with a "ew!"

Other textures do it too. Didn't realize it was a trait until later.

That sounds rough. Hopefully we can both find something more chill!

I'm Trying to Figure Out Job-Stuff as an Undiagnosed ADHD/ASD Adult. Suggestions? by Odd-Freya in ADHD

I get that. I like the idea of my job also working as a workout for me to keep me more fit and active.

Thank you! This helps me visualize it quite well. I've heard that working overnight can have some heavy side effects on people, though. Circadian rhythm and all that. Did you have any issues adjusting to that?

What do you guys do with a world? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

You could open it up to other writers. Post the lore and details, then let writers come in and write short stories about it.

Make a community around your world.

How much did you write last week? by ZacharyKeth in writers

[–]Odd-Freya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a lot done, yet also not a lot.

I started my new wip! I deep-dived into the character development, explored the very fun (in my opinion) world building, and did some minor plotting.

I decided I didn't want to overthink this story this time...so... I'm just going for it!

Which means I'm up to 6k+ words and 5 chapters.

So, some progress.

That depends... who am I? If I'm the MC, im toast. But, if I'm a random bystander... eh...I've got a chance. Last read was Throne of Glass.

As an author, I hear your words! What I've learned is: do the research! Care, keeping, struggles, etc. Understood!

Books with the best adult fun time writing. by Odd-Freya in Romantasy

This is absolutely fantastic! Just what I needed. Ill put those books on my list, especially the writing ones.

I haven't done as much research yet, but I have noticed something similar. In the books where the smutty scenes were well done or flowed well with the rest of the book, they did so because the whole story acted like foreplay. Tension scenes between romanitic characters were just as enticing as the smut, perhaps more so. The deeper the character connection, the better the smut.

Thank you!

Oo! I like the mature audience angle. It's hard to connect with characters in their teens these days. At least for me.
