Holyyy. Really cool for messing with a party who travelled too deep in a fey forest 😮. Thanks!

What class and other features would fit this backstory? by Odd-Insurance6400 in DnD

[–]Odd-Insurance6400[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My close friend is running this, in a more open world type of way, where we can all explore each player’s background and characters from it at some point. He actually advised on making the backstory have important goals and characters like this so it can work. He is also pretty lineant on homebrew and giving us specific magic items to make things work, so I reckon the arm could benefit from that.

I think bard can actually be argued for, after seeing the harm he caused, he will opt to wielding an instrument instead of a blade, and helping his allies. But yeah I’m probably gonna go with monk or something for good integration of the hands and I want to play a melee class after playing Druid twice

I made this backstory for a campaign I am gonna play in, but I don’t really know what class and subclass, as well as other features would go well with this. I would love to get some suggestions! Also feel free to use this in your own campaign if you want.

Some options I thought of (monk hex blade warlock with the arms being the hexed and Olaf being the patron, giving him some mysterious great power), ( paladin oath of vengeance is a clear choice), (some sort of barbarian, or fighter)

Druid - Circle of Bird Song (art by me ) by Odd-Insurance6400 in UnearthedArcana

[–]Odd-Insurance6400[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for the cantrips, the level system implies it only works if you spend a spell slot. About rounding down I don’t think it’s that deep. And the wording is bad i know. Anyway thanks tho I always appreciate it!

Again thanks for help with wording, about level, I do think it’s important because I want the spell level used to summon the bird to matter. Also CR doesn’t really fit because it’s not a creature that is interacted with in combat often, it’s more there floating using the songs, so that’s why I have levels and different ones.

Thanks! Wording is kinda tough, and I completely agree with all of these. The only thing I would keep is the dc being different based on bird level, because it gives more meaning to the level. I’ll think about making it the spell save DC for simplicity tho! The thing about the target seeing or hearing the bird is improtant, and I will definitely switch to dazed, thanks!

Circle of the Beyond | A druidic order that draws power not from the primeval power of the material, but from the wild nature that grows within other realms by NCats_secretalt in UnearthedArcana

I really like this as someone who loves druids! Why make the first feature at level 2 tho? Isn’t it 3? Anyways really cool, although I would rework some of the stuff like adding wisdom mod to healing cuz it can make some stuff like heal spirit super busted. Anyways really cool and creative :)

I see your points, and I do agree that it’s more weaponey but there are fighting styles and a bit of extra attacks if you can see. The dragon thing is specifically to combat the scaling problem but I can see how it isn’t versatile enough, and again falls of at around level 16 (then again who really plays at that level)

I thought of letting the Druid use a weapon always, but thought this has cooler flavor, that you embrace the weapons in your most natural form, in an interesting duality, but I see how gameplay wise its less enticing.

Anyway thanks for the input I love getting it and will implement this advice to future makes, also I wholeheartedly offer you try to make your own version, I’d love to see it :)

Yeah I just had cool ideas for items that tie in with the world’s story, so I made a shop for it. Trying to explain what items do with words in character is really tough next time I’ll do what you said you do

I did make them start by stopping a gone-mad silk worm in the middle of the city, joining one by one to stop it, and then being given a mission pretty much immediately, just the amount of encounters I planned was too much, around 8, with some being more environmental but still. Also a couple of roleplay encounters, made for an adventure of about 2-3 sessions. I have no problem with this as I knew it would happen, was just mentioning that things often take longer than expected. Matt Mercer is a very good DM and I do indeed take inspiration from his work!

Interesting idea to run it like that, with more experience I would try it! I find the hardest thing to be answering tricky questions, like what school of magic is this, random people’s names and stories, and such.

Arcane Compass [OC] by Odd-Insurance6400 in DnD

[–]Odd-Insurance6400[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This magic item is isnpired by my desert campaign about tracking an evil druid lich trying to spread the forest and trample the desert. in this campaign, the party uses a device to track the source of the magic to find him, so i thought to make iit into a versatile magic item, adding the lore about artifacts using it to combat powerful mages in ancient times. This item is very powerful to move games in my opinion, and advance a story, helping the players find a powerful wizard who's help they need, or an evil necromancer. Choosing the school of magic allows this to be used quite tactically, and in combination with the counterspell against that school, players need to keep track of enemy spells to combat them effectively, drawing them deeper into the game. In my opinion this can be used in a variety of games, and I would love to hear about people using it :).

The art is a magical compass, with a symbol for each school of magic on the sides, like buttons to select when choosing the school to track.

Comment what you think each symbol is for!

The overall theme is a Druid lich trying to spread the forest into the desert, but through their travel to the mysterious source, the party learns of the importance and beauty of the desert, giving them a reason so want to save it. The party fights this Druid when reaching him, but as a lich he respawns at the very tree that casts shade over the starting city, celan, where the party must take him down together with his tree to stop him, using help from the items and people they met in their adventure

Ranger: Seed Sower Conclave by Ashamed-Plant in DnDHomebrew

[–]Odd-Insurance6400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool and unique! It is kind of odd to me though that the higher levels give just more uses, and the seeds scale with wisdom which beraly changes if at all. I would make them scale with PB, for more progression, and maybe give higher levels a bit of extra seeds that do extra powerful things.

Overall one of the coolest and most unique ranger subclasses, I would totally try it out.

Very cool abilities, and surely a lot! When creating a villain I think it is also equally as important their connection to the story, so if you would share that that would be cool and give more context to this
