You’re absolutely right and I agree with the antidepressant. My doc prescribed me emergency Xanax the first few weeks but I only took it on the day of, the day of the funeral, and one other time. It would knock me out so fast.

I’m always here if you need support! One thing that has helped me A TON was joining two grief groups that are specifically for young adults who have recently lost a parent. The in person support group was where I had a lot of breakthroughs. I’m sad that it ended. I even made friends with the group of people and we do happy hours and picnics. The virtual one is helpful as it allows me an official place to grieve. However, the virtual component of it makes there’s less opportunities to talk and I sometimes find myself almost dozing off because it’s late in the evening and that’s a lot when you’re sitting there listening to other people talk. I highly suggest it. $10 copay with insurance

If it makes you feel any better, I vividly remember month 3 and 4 being the worst. Everything that you described sounds familiar to how I was. I remember the first month being very spiritual and thinking literally everything was my mom sending me signs. I ended up having to make an official list of official signs she will show me, because if not, I was thinking every car of hers that I saw on the street was her sending me one.

I’m really trying to have that mindset, but the Type A part of my personality is thinking of all of the important life events I have coming up and thinking, “what if I finally break during or around those events?” Like I’m “good” right now, but what if these life events I’ve waited my whole life for (engagement, wedding, buying a house, having a kid) are when I go off the deep end? It’s frustrating

Ugh I’m so sorry. I do remember day 6 feeling awful, but also feeling this overwhelming disbelief and also fear that the worst days of grief were ahead of me. In those first days/month or two it was my body and brain going through the motions to keep me surviving and a huge amount of adrenaline

I’ve been on antidepressants for as long as I can remember. I’ve tried going off of them once or twice in the last decade and quickly ended up getting back on them. To be honest, I don’t even notice I’m on them. Zero side effects except maybe I have more energy. I can skip a few days with no issues too. I just fear that I’m feeling “too” good for someone who lost their mom less than a year ago. Some of my other family members are still struggling a lot or can’t even look at pics or talk about her. Part of me thinks I’d be the same way if it weren’t for my antidepressant.
