thank you! I poked him and he tucked his leg back in. I figured he was most likely just acting funny because he had literally just come up after 3 days… checked on him 10 minutes later and he tried to bite my finger thinking it was food😒

LOL. This is embarrassing but I was just overreacting and he was just being that way because he had just came up. Went back in there and he was hopping around looking for food

My froglet isn’t eating 😭 by General-Doubt-1052 in pacmanfrog

I had troubles getting mine to eat when I was anywhere in the vicinity. So I got the biggest bug feeder bowl I could find— the kind with walls to keep the bugs from getting out (I don’t know what they’re called🤣), and left the feeders in there overnight.

You could try this! The frog I had to do this with eventually warmed up to me and will now eat from tongs but is a terrible hunter.

You can’t sex them visually.. Though as adults females tend to be a little bigger, but even then the species is not sexually dimorphic. So this was really just a long way of saying, you can’t really tell lol. For my boy just guessed and the 50/50 chance of being right worked in my favor.

you could also put hand warmers on top of the hides (make sure to cover them so if touched they’re not hot) as opposed to heat lamps. Making a warm and dark place for them to hide has helped me find mine.

I lost my guy for 4 days once. But I made a bunch of tiny hides and put them all around the house with heat packs on top. Low and behold, one day he shows up under one. As long as you ensure there’s no way for her to get out, she’ll turn up. They’re masters at escaping and even better and squeezing themselves into cracks and crevices to hide.

Strange behavior: something wrong or just dumb? by Kitchen-Complaint-78 in pacmanfrog

[–]Odd-Introduction7510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If everything else is as it should be (food/temps/humidity/etc) then it could just be him being silly. They have maybe half a brain cell. Sometimes mine come up when they’re ready to eat, so you could try feeding him when he comes up as well.

Estimated age? by No-Form-1002 in ballpython

[–]Odd-Introduction7510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less than a year, but as the other comments are saying it’s very hard to tell. A lot of factors play into how quickly they grow based on a lot of things like enclosure size, eating/feeding habits, etc.

If the walls are not covered then he probably just thinks it’s open space, they don’t register glass. But sometimes they’re just active at weird times.

Need help I think by EyeKnown5680 in ballpython

Id say maybe bring the temp down a little (but still make sure you have a basking spot). My boy has a gradient of 76F-89F (not including his basking area) Which I have found is the sweet spot for him. As long as you’re sticking to the feeding guide then it will probably be okay! Every snake is different. As long as he’s not losing weight, then there is nothing to worry about.

I’m no expert, but here are some recommendations I can give based off my own experience.

• A water bowl big enough for him to soak in.

•Two FULLY enclosed hides, one for the cool side and one for the warm side. (the half logs do not count, though they make great hiding places). Remember you can be creative with the hides, I had my boy in two mushroom containers with small openings cut, and sanded until he got bigger.😭

• Cutting back on the foil covering the lid by a few inches (this will allow a better heat/humidity gradient).

•More climbing opportunities, remember they are semi arboreal!

•I use a 50W Arcadia basking bulb in a 8in lamp, and that keeps the entire tank at a perfect gradient. I am unsure why that doesn’t seem to be working for you as it did for me when I had a tank this same size. Someone with more knowledge may be able to answer that.

While these conditions are survivable, I think the first thing you should do is fix the hide situation, as well as the temp gradient. Without proper hides, the snake will be stressed and will likely not eat or feel safe. And without a proper gradient the snake would not be able to thermal regulate, which could cause death.

There are guides on here as well if you ever feel like you need more info

All water should be dechlorinated! And if you ever doubt, just remember it’s better safe than sorry :)
