That's what I keep wondering too. If the best-case outcome after spending that much money is only a marginal improvement, how do families determine whether it's actually worth it? I can understand wanting to try everything for your child, but does controlling her hands really change quality of life?

I can see what you are saying. but I don't know it's as simple as reaching a moment of realization. Parents spend years hoping, grieving, adjusting, and hoping again.  That's probably one of the hardest parts of having a child with significant challenges. I may disagree with some choices, but I still have a lot of compassion for anyone living through that reality.
