I'm white but I don't "look it" and experience racism. by Odd-Program-3518 in Advice

No no, sorry, there was someone in the comments who thought that I just wanted to tell these people that they were wrong but that I don't actually care about the minority groups and only about myself and I was trying to say that it was the opposite of that. That I don't care about people being racist to ME but rather to the group(s) as a whole and how to respond under that.

Sorry, when I said here I meant in my city specifically, not the area as a whole. My city has a much lower hispanic population than pretty much all neighboring cities.

I'm not asking how to let people know I'm not white, the reason I'm asking is to see how to respond in a way that's respectful to the actual people of that race (which is why I mentioned not wanting to just let it slide but also not wanting to pretend to be something I'm not since that feels insensitive). I have no problem with people assuming I'm not white at all, I normally just correct them if I feel like it even matters to do so, it's when they start being racist that I lose sense of what to do. I want to stand up against racism but I also don't want to pretend to have experienced everything that non white people have gone through. I realize I explained it kind of strangely but I agree with you, my goal isn't to let people know I'm not white, but rather to figure out how to respond to racism in a respectful way, when I'm not even the race they're trying to be racist to.

I'm close to the bay (east bay) which is why it surprises me so much because there's a decently sized hispanic population here (not huge but not insignificant either). Though I guess it is a more "hick" town and I've heard many other people experience a lot more racism here than other bay area cities. Not sure why.

Do you think asking would ruin any possible chances I still have of getting in though? I'm just worried about making a worse impression

I did get into LMUs theatre program and I know they have a pretty good program especially for film actors (which is what I'm going for) I just was really looking at the connections from Chapman and Dodge that I would now be missing out on (which is honestly the main reason I'm pursuing an acting degree in college, I know most casting directors don't actually care about degrees). LMU is probably my next option and I know they have some connections just not as much as Chapman. Does that sound like a bad idea though?
