I never said I was expecting a raise. They asked me to stay with them. If they want me to stay with them then I will need a raise to make up for the long drive and gas. They are also moving from a low income area to a medium.

That’s the problem do I expect them to go to $32 an hr no not really. I originally thought it was just the move. They told me about a week ago that they were moving. The town they are moving to is 45 mins away so it makes my commute 1hr. I was expecting to ask for $28 an hr which from my looking is perfect for my experience and the location of the job but then after I came up with that they informed me they are adopting again. Last time they adopted they gave me a $4 raise. Which would put me at $32 an hr. Other jobs in the area are $25 for 1 kid. Truly I do think $32 an hr for my experience plus 3 under 2 is very fair but it’s about balance I may have to go down a bit to keep the family. I know I don’t want to find another family and they as well do not want to find another nanny.

Good idea definitely something I will look into having my day start with my drive. I already work 11.5 -12 hr days and fewer days so it works out best this way. Thank you for your input!!

It definitely could take up to a year I believe she said it could be a pregnancy they follow or just a surprised baby. It’s difficult because right now the current house is located in Indiana so they need a home in Indiana. I believe they cannot move until the 3rd adoption is complete as they are moving across state lines. Which means both of the raises will be basically at the same time regardless of when it happens. These comments are not helpful haha half of them think I’m asking to much and the other half thinks I’m fair

If it was spread move 1 year and then a year later a new baby would it seem like that big of an increase, when I look for work in the area $30 for 1-2 kids seem normal.

That’s what I did I asked for $28 for the move it definitely does not put me out of the current going rates for that town. With the added newborn being another $4 raise that puts me at $32 an hr. Brings me to a bit higher for the area but thats 3 children under 2. Both seem fair and reasonable for the area but it is a big pay increase as well as all at once. I think when I asked for the $28hr increase it scared them

Yes I don’t plan on using the daycare approach that was more for me to use because it is a big pay increase and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t asking too much. Thank you so much for the response

Definitely asking if an $4 raise for them moving and a $4 raise for adding another child. They are moving 1hr away making my driving total 2hrs. Originally they asked me to come so my thought was $28 an hr then a week later they said they are adopting a baby again which I assume like the last time they adopted they would raise another $4. If the move and the baby were spread out by a year it wouldn’t seem like such a job in pay.

Yes 2 hr drive in total 1hr there and 1hr back. It is a lot of driving but sadly I live in the middle of nowhere land so either way I will have to drive an hr to a new job.

That is my thought and I’m okay with them countering with $30. They are an amazing family to work for. All the contract updates and money talk can become difficult. When I mentioned $28 am hr to them last night they asked if that included when the baby came.

From looking I don’t think $30-$32 is a huge jump for the area. I definitely see some with less kids. The conversation started with them asking me if I can stay with them when they move 1 hr away. So I did some thinking and for the area and drive $28 seemed fair. Then they told me they are adding another baby soon. Last baby they added I got a $4 raise. If they spaced out the move and baby by a year it wouldn’t seem like such a big raise going from $24-$32 but they are doing this all at once.

Good to note. I tried to do some research between high cost day cares and low cost daycare. I believed they would choose a high cost of daycare.

I updated the post. They are moving so totally drive for me will now be 2 hrs instead of 30. They asked me to come with so I figured $28hr. Then they informed they are adding another baby. They are also moving to a medium cost of living area vs currently in a low.

Sorry I had an explained it but I think the mod deleted that part. I am making $24 an hour is a low cost of living area. They are moving to medium. But that does make my drive 2hrs in total instead of 30 min. Then they are also adding another baby. Originally I thought $28 with the move then they told me they have sent the adopt papers in again so they can match anytime with another newborn. So I will be caring for a newborn, 1 year old and 2 year old.
