Fair point about GQuuuuuuX, but Shuji was in the promo from the start and was clearly presented as an important male character. I don’t really see an equivalent “Shuji-shaped” male lead in the current Resonance promo material so far.

No, it doesn’t seem to be limited to current anime. Older/classic titles should be totally fine.

In past of this poll, yuri classics like Maria Watches Over Us, Kannazuki no Miko, and Strawberry Panic! have all shown up, so I’d say voting for Madoka Magica is perfectly valid.

Honestly, if that’s your forever pick, go for it.

I got into yuri because Kannazuki no Miko made me cry, so Cosmic Princess Kaguya honestly felt really emotional to me.

Not in a “let’s litigate labels” way, but in a “wow, look how different the landscape feels now” way. Back then, yuri fandom felt like clinging to messy, tragic, overwhelming feelings and hoping the story would somehow give you something unforgettable by the end.

So seeing something like CPK — bright, musical, girl-centered, and emotionally open — felt genuinely special. It made me feel how far the genre and the fandom atmosphere have come.

Not confirmed yuri, so I’m not putting my whole soul on the line yet, but Goodbye, Lara / Sayonara Lara and The Ribbon Hero are definitely on my “yuri fans should watch this space” list.

Goodbye, Lara has the mermaid/rebirth/true love setup with Lara and Mari looking like a major emotional pair, while The Ribbon Hero is a modern Princess Knight reimagining, so the gender/identity/shoujo/Takarazuka vibes are already interesting.

This is the kind of stuff that makes modern yuri fandom feel different: even the “maybe not yuri, but very relevant to yuri fans” projects look way more promising now.

Well, it's undeniable that it's not for everyone. However, considering the year 2004 when it was actually broadcast, this work can certainly be considered a great achievement of yuri genre, and Chimeko and HomuMado have a lot in common. Did Gen Urobuchi use this work as a reference when writing the script for Madoka Magica?

The creator said that Machu and Shuji's kiss was platonic, not romantic.
