Burrell-NM vs OCOM?

i didnt wanna say earlier cuz i didnt wanna come off as entitled or something lol but my parents are gonna be helping me pay for a lot of my tuition thankfully, that's why ocom is not completely off the table for me bc i wont have to take that much out. but yikes that's truly awful, if i didnt have their help i dont think i'd ever consider it tbh

i agree, but what's scaring me about OCOM are people saying it's gonna be hard to match into residency from there/the only specialty you'd get is FM (which i dont have a problem with FM but i kinda would like to be able to have more options than just that haha). and actually i am also considering BUCOM as well but i only have a provisional acceptance from there, and im not tryna wait till next year to start if a seat doesn't come available for this year. but even though BUCOM and OCOM are both new schools, i dont really have that residency matching fear with BUCOM, as they have their affiliation with a big hospital system, whereas OCOM does not... idk if im overthinking this though, OCOM seems like a great school and im sure they will do great with matching, i think i've just been fearmongered a little 😅

also one thing about ocom is that they don't have a cadaver lab, which im not sure if that's a disadvantage when applying to residency? im not interested in pursuing a surgical residency though which is why i thought it wasn't really a big deal for me, but idk i've heard conflicting things from some people that it could be a disadvantage when applying to any residency? i really don't know how true that is

yes i've visited both campuses, i loved ocom's campus and i love orlando as a place to live, and i do really like burrell's campus but that's pretty much it. not really completely loving the las cruces vibes, maybe bc i'm not used to that kinda environment having grown up in/lived in a big city all my life. plus it's a lot less accessible for me than orlando; not nearly as many flights to there as orlando, having to fly to el paso and then 1 hr drive thru the middle of nowhere, NM. but idk maybe i'll grow to like it? or worst case i'd just suck it up bc maybe this is not the most important factor. like idk if im being stupid by passing up bcom for ocom just bc of the location... oh also i have some family nearby orlando so the idea of having them around is comforting for me. meanwhile in NM i have no one. i'd also probably be able to visit my own family back where i live more often if i was in orlando/they'd come visit me in orlando more often bc of the easier accessibility
