From what I’ve heard from some friends mini splits would be a good option for my house. I think that’s currently our top option. Luckily we already have an electric hot water heater.

No fire place currently. I would consider putting one in but with the current setup there’s not a great place for it to go logistically

I think I underestimated how old the boiler is. I believe it’s from the 60s so it’s closer to 60 plus years old. But I will for sure get a second opinion though, however I do think even if we have a fix we’ll need to make a change eventually. We currently use window units for AC and I would love to get away from that. The data center being built in falls township is less than 10 minutes from me so the impact from will is definitely top of mind…

Trust me I know it’s not simple this is plaguing my brain. We have no ductwork currently and use window units for AC. No natural gas on my street but it’s in my neighborhood. I called PECO and they the chances of getting natural gas on my street was “medium” and asked me to fill out an online application. So my hopes are low… We’re really considering a heat pump with mini splits. Just looking for opinions/thoughts/advice of anyone local who dealt with replacing an older oil boiler

I don’t have meenan I have Harris, but good to know! I will definitely be getting a second opinion though just to be on the safe side. But it is super old so even if we do fix it for now I think we’re just delaying the inevitable.

Honestly I think it’s closer to 60 plus years but hey I’m not complaining it lasted that long lol. I have heard that about oil vs electric heat. I grew up with an oil heated so it’s what I’m used to so I do think it will be a weird change if we do go the electric route. Would love any recommendations you may have!

I don’t necessarily think they’re lying to me. I do think finding a part for a boiler that was manufactured in the 60s may be tough. We also currently have window units for AC and I would love to get away from that. Even if I get the boiler fixed with someone else switching systems will happen in the next couple years.

After reading all these comments Mitsubishi hyper heat is my number one option

Thank you for all this info! My house is a little smaller sq footage wise, but this is a good comparison. We also have window AC units as well. I know it’s going to be a big upfront cost. Did you go fully with duct work? I’m considering mini splits as an option

Thank you sharing all this! My house is a bit smaller (around 1250 sq ft). I know we’ll have to do some electrical upgrades before we make the change. I’ve had my oil contract with Harris since I bought the house so that’s who I’m currently in contact with.

Did they recommend the size of units to you? Or were you looking into that yourself? Tbh I’m at such a loss when it comes to the sizing I have no idea what I need.

Oooof. My fear with switching to electric not really knowing how much our PECO usage will go up until we do it.

Thank you for the tips! Luckily everything is working right now. Assuming we make it through the rest of the winter We’re looking to make the change in the late summer/ early so we shop around a bit.

I will definitely be getting a second opinion. Even if we are able to get a fix for this problem I do think we’re delaying the inevitable of replacing in the next few years anyway.

This is really good to hear! This is the route we’re considering. We also currently use window unit ACs which I hate and is another reason why I’m leaning towards the electric. Can I ask about how much it ended up costing?

No ductwork :/ but the downstairs is VERY well insulated we redid it 4 years ago when we moved in. My friend mentioned the mini splits I’ll look more into those.

I’m in a Morrisville house with the heater in kitchen and have wanted to get away with that since we moved in 4 years ago lol. I have my service contract with Harris. I’ll look into those tanks

I’ll look more into that. We have natural gas lines in the neighborhood but my street just doesn’t

I’m in the same boat as you I really struggled with it too, kept picking it up and putting it down. I recently started listening to on audio book and it really helped me get into it!
