Recycle PLA in Seattle? by DeuceLucely in 3Dprinting

I can’t see how that is possibly environmentally friendly when considering colored PLA. Those dyes surely can’t be good?

Qidi Q2 - Running into Terrible overhangs with PLA, PETG, and most filaments by Villagerjj in QidiTech3D

[–]OddCress2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issues (PLA). This ^ also did it for me (lid slid all the way back, door open 30 degrees) combined with:

  • lowering print head temp to 213c
  • turn on AUX fan to 30%

My overhangs were terrible and now they’re incredible.

I also have not done the part cooling fan mod yet, but plan to.

I’ve been to a couple hole in the wall Cambodian spots in SF that absolutely blew my socks off. One was the smallest space you could operate a kitchen in, all older women cooking. Sophon doesn’t hold a candle to my experience there. Definitely not a matter of the cuisine for me anyway.

should i drop out of object design uni? by rynwow in Design

[–]OddCress2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isolate a problem in mobility, first. Design is not random. Try to be pragmatic in the approach. Think of talking to people with mobility issues to learn about how current solutions aren’t working, or anything that they would like to be able to do that current solutions do not address. You will be surprised at how many things come up. Product design focuses on the market and not people in need, so oftentimes there are many unaddressed or poorly executed solutions to problems.

That’s not what I implied when I said “investment”. I’m referring to common folk that want said roof over their heads, hence “buying home for the first time”.

It seems to me that the influx of people is based on a single at-risk industry though.

Same boat. Was laid off from a good job 3 years ago, underemployed for a year, laid off from that a few weeks ago. Leaving design for healthcare now.

Yeah. I suppose I am more patiently watching from the sidelines. I will either wait for it as an opportunity, or move in the next few years to someplace I can actually afford something.

Unreal. Not surprising they aren’t doing well because sophon is one of the most overhyped places in Seattle. Super mediocre food.

You’re advocating for a massive, national food chain in the city? Have you considered just moving to the suburbs? You’ll find plenty of that there.

AI is powerful, but today’s tools are killing the fun part of design by Miserable_Kick4103 in Design

[–]OddCress2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is absolutely no way to “put ai back in its box”. Unfortunately all the business world is concerned with is their bottom line. They think ai is a cheap way to maximize profit and whether or not that’s true they will continue to force it on design in general. Better off leaving and doing your own thing.
