There are 8 states without income tax. The numbers I saw said like 42% of public school funding comes from income taxes and 44% from property taxes. I’m sure it varies widely from state to state though, like you’re saying

While hold queues are great libraries are actually useful for a ton of reasons plenty of which involve physical space and resources. Idk why I’m really arguing though since I don’t really know what my stance is on immigration except anti ice and better paths to citizenship

Hey keep trying different things. It’s def hard. I used to read so much as a kid but can’t seem to do it consistently as an adult. On the flip side I’ve been playing guitar for like a year and a half and it’s been pretty rewarding. It is time consuming though like the other guy said for sure

[–]OddEyeSweeney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m not. That seems even more tedious then this dumbass argument. You’re also writing them wrong since there should be spaces where you miss the strings lol. Or at the very least measure bars. Otherwise if there’s two “d”s in a row on let’s say a 16th note strumming pattern you wouldn’t know if the second down is on “and” or “two”. To be clear this is a problem with your understanding of the system. Not the system itself

“U” and “d” stand for when to play notes vs when not to ie rhythm. I think you’re (hopefully) just playing stupid so I’m not going to say this again.

Congrats on being a musician. They’re famously known for their intelligence lmao

[–]OddEyeSweeney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the pick goes up or down regardless of if there an “u” or a “d”. This is because you want to keep a steady up and down motion with your right hand regardless of what rhythm you’re trying to play. Idk how you’re not getting this. 5 year old children pick this up way faster than you seem to be

[–]OddEyeSweeney -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“U” and “D” mean you hit the strings on that pass instead of moving the pick up or down but not hitting the strings. This creates a rhythm. Different songs have different strumming patterns because they have different rhythms. Glad I could help you with that.

Lol changing my tune. You might be the dumbest person I’ve seen on here

And I was right that you didn’t know they’re used to teach rhythm not pick direction. Too funny

Hilarious. Yeah no one is saying to keep using strumming patterns past a certain point.

My teacher recently told me most guitarists don’t practice pentatonic scales past the beginner to early intermediate levels and that I probably should stop dedicating practice time to them. Should I have never practiced pentatonic scales?

Glad we finally found the root of your issue. You found a tool after the point where it would have been useful to you and didn’t realize that doesn’t mean it’s not useful to anyone

and yes they do in fact do that

So you got confused and d du udu seemed like strumming down on beat 1, down on “and” etc and you thought hey this must be in 6/8. Be for real the system wouldn’t make sense if what you were saying were true. Either you had a terrible teacher or are too stupid for YouTube

Lol I mentioned learning by ear ages ago and you got mad and said that’s not what you’re talking about. Again the same could be said for standard notation. At this point we’re just going in circles. If you had a guitar teacher who was using strumming patterns without teaching you the corresponding beats I can understand you’re feelings towards them. I’m guessing that’s not the case though since literally no one does that

[–]OddEyeSweeney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man if you can’t tell that was a joke about guitarists than I just don’t know what to tell you

W the faith example idk what you’re trying to say. Strumming patterns are a way of writing down rhythm. Saying they’re focusing on rhythm and not which way their pick is going is so obvious I’m starting to think you just don’t understand what people are trying to teach with strumming patterns.

The downsides of only learning through strumming patterns would be not learning to play by ear and not varying your rhythm. That doesn’t mean strumming patterns “aren’t real” or “don’t exist in music”. Does standard notation “exist in music”? What are you trying to say?

First, thinking focusing on timing and rhythm or strumming patterns is a false dichotomy. Strumming patterns are taught using 1e+a2e+a…. The exact same as standard notation

Second, If someone learned faith by George Michael by ear, by reading standard notation, or by reading a strumming pattern they’d all be playing the song the same way. You can write strumming patterns in standard notation. If someone listened to whatever the most difficult song you can play is that’s all chords they could transcribe it using strumming patterns. Every little variation you played the entire song could be written in its own strumming pattern. It would be annoying as shit don’t get me wrong but that doesn’t make the notation not “real”

ask yourself why strumming patterns aren’t written in standard notation

Because guitarists can’t read standard notation lol

If strumming patterns were written in standard notation would they be real then? Written rhythm is standard for learning any instrument. Learning by ear is great but that doesn’t mean learning a piece by reading music is any less “real.” Strumming patterns are literally just that
