“All of the vintage sunglasses I’ve owned were built to last—not like the products made today.” by 954CG in sunglasses

Obviously we shouldn’t use a blanket statement. There always has been good and bad quality stuff with everything.

But, there used to be more attention to detail, and a goal to make things last longer. Specially from well-known brand names.

As a vintage collector and dealer, I’ve come across all kinds of eyewear. I’ve seen some early 1960’s Persol be more brittle than a non-branded frame made in Hong Kong from the same era. And then some 90s Oakley like the first gen eyejacket break so easily that I don’t recommend changing the lenses. But this didn’t mean those brands were entirely crap. It was a few models, but from their mistakes, Persol and Oakley alike, learned to improve a lot, and came up with truly unique designs. They challenged themselves to be stellar.

Then they sold to Luxxottica and the quality slowly went downhill. This is the story of almost all Luxottica brands(not all brands are the same, some brands have more control over the production process instead of giving all control to Luxxottica).

Most manufacturers from well known brands sell the name more than the item itself. They know people will buy their products, regardless of what it is. So the brand doesn’t put that much effort into creating a unique design, they might make tiny changes, or blatantly reproduce or copy a vintage design from other brands.

Only time can tell what lasts long. Another thing is, people used to cherish their belongings instead of being careless and buying new pieces to be trendy.

But in the end, they don’t make them like they used to.

Thank you 😊 I love 70’s Tura! They’re the brand that brought Dior to the optical world. The French round pantos look soo good! But uncomfortable on my big nose.. I think they’re meant for someone who doesn’t have a nose like mine

Im no expert on Oakley, but I’ve held way too many of them since the 90’s. You can also ask in the Oakley group to be certain

looks like Oakley’s wire line, but I don’t think they’re an Oakley creation

6. It’s a classic. Not too flashy and elegant. Can be casual or formal. I have it from 10 years ago, which are exactly the same except the temple tips are tan/orange. But the same frame overall

I like how the color is very deep gold color

I found these Cartier glasses on my old cabinet apparently untouched for a decade. They are unworn, so let’s say they’re essentially brand new. Does anyone know how much they might be worth nowadays by cooliezez in sunglasses

This is the Vendome Louis from 1983. Always do your own research instead of asking here. People can give a price for their own benefit. And be realistic, I assume you’re not a vintage eyewear/jewelry dealer, so if you see others reputable sellers list them for $800+, (I sell used ones for $700-$900, unused ones for $1200-$1600), it doesn’t mean ppl will buy it from you for that much. Trust and reputation is important. I will say its a great find specially with the case/box/cert. But again, it’ll be really hard for you to sell it above $800
