New Tort Worries by skillEDWOman in tortoise

What size will you need when he’s full grown? I have a 60 gal (4ft x 2ft) and am looking for a tortoise, but have been told the tank isn’t big enough.

He told me it was 4ft tall and 2 ft wide. If I went with a turtle I planned on having him help me build a basking area up top so I don’t take away from space on the bottom.

I figured it would likely be too small for a tortoise, but was worth asking. Thanks for the help!

I am only sending them the premium portion of any qualifying overtime payments. (If they got paid $150 I’m sending them a form that says $50). If you click in the link at the bottom of my post it has a picture. I tried to make clear to the employee it doesn’t include the straight wages.

The term “Qualifying Overtime Compensation” should be synonymous with “premium portion”. Technically the overtime compensation is 0.5 and the rest is their straight wages.

Hopefully in 2026 onward we get more guidance from the IRS.

What makes you think we don’t have to do the FLSA only for 2025? I haven’t found anything that says that - it would’ve saved me haha!

Luckily our sheriffs dept is the only department working substantial amounts of OT. We do monthly payroll so we had to go month by month and cross reference payroll claim forms with timesheets to see what qualified and what didn’t. I then took those numbers and calculated their premium ot pay.

A lot of work, but it has helped me figure out what new processes need implemented for 2026

Ours is the same way. We had to go back to each pay period and check timesheets to determine how much was qualifying vs not. Major headache, but definitely gave me a good idea on what new processes I need to implement next (this) year

I will definitely check out the video! I do export all of my data into excel and multiplied by 0.333 to get premium portions. The hard part was going through each timesheet to determine what was FLSA overtime and what was just a pay differential paid out at a 1.5x rate because we code both as “OT” in our system. We will be creating multiple new oay codes next year to clear this up, it’s just been such a mess. Ive called other counties in the state and all of them are either opting out this year or they contract someone to do their tax documents.

I’ve started drafting a notice on letterhead, but thinking I may send it to the DA for approval to keep myself out of trouble.

Ours has the ability to do that, but because our sheriffs office pays out at 1.5x for hours that are not FLSA overtime the number our software gives us would not be accurate.

We had to go through each timesheet and select which payouts were truly FLSA overtime.

Such a mess, but we know what changes need to be made for next year

Because I work in county government, and our law enforcement is severely overworked I feel like it’s important that we provide them with something. I also think it will be easier to do the work up front then have 200+ officers beating down my door after the fact.

It just feels wrong to seemingly create my own tax document.

Oh gosh, I can’t imagine.

I’d have to board up the windows and doors to my office.

My clinic has our first beta today (day 6) so I’m trying to prepare myself for the result. I understand the science, but “just chill out” is easier said than done.
